Rick Wagoner – the former General Motors chief executive that was ousted by the Obama Administration – has landed a board position with aluminum recycler Aleris Holding Co.
Wagoner won’t be too far removed from his previous gig as Aleris recycles aluminum and makes products for the transportation industry. Aleris also has a hand in the construction, packaging and electrical industries.
“He brings a wealth of expertise that will be invaluable to Aleris as we continue to strengthen our company and grow,” Steven Demetriou, chief executive officer of Beachwood, Ohio-based Aleris, said in a statement.
Wagoner, 57, spent 32 years at GM, including his final eight-year stint as the company’s CEO. Wagoner was forced to retire from GM in August 2009 at the request of President Obama’s auto task force. During his last four years as company head, GM lost $82 billion and gave up the title of world’s biggest automaker to Toyota.
Wagoner was also recently voted to the board of the Washington Post Co.
