No, they were not selling Opel to raise cash. Opel has been losing money for years and GM no longer had the cash reserves in the US to keep them going, just like operations here in the states.

There is huge overcapacity in Europe as there is in the US. Hard to make a profit. BUT as the link below says Opel is just to wound into the new Global GM and it would really have taken a hit to give controlling interest of it away.

Opel dose have a better line-up then G.M. has here in the States, the cars are just better, and maybe some of you haven’t driven a Jag. lately, but they are better then ever…

CRAFTSMANSHIP,… QUALITY,… RELIABILITY,<(well, still to bee seen)…

But other then that, they are good f-ing cars…

Remember G.M. was "SELLING" Opel to "RAISE-CASH"!,
Not because Opel was doing bad….
