Frank Stephenson resigns as Alfa Romeo design head

04/02/2008, 12:04 PM

By Drew Johnson

Frank Stephenson, head of Alfa Romeo design, has announced that he will step down from his position. Stephenson, who has been with the Fiat Group for the past six years, says his resignation is independent of Fiat’s decision to name former Pininfarina design director as head of the Fiat Group’s design team.

According to AutoWeek, Stephenson — 49 — doesn’t have another gig lined up, but with his impressive resume, it shouldn’t be long before some automaker offers the American-born Stephenson a job.

Stephenson has had a hand in designing the MINI, BMW X5, Fiat 500, Alfa Romeo Mi.To, Maserati MC12 and Quattroporte, and Ferrari F430 and 612 Scaglietti.

Stephenson will be replaced by Christopher Reitz.

That’s it LLN, just delete my post revealing your horrible grammar and fix the article, way to cover up the fact that your writers are a cut below my old school paper.

Good, maybe now Alfa’s won’t come with that horrible, pointed nose.

Impulsive, that nose wasn’t Frank’s invention, it is the classic leit motif of Alfa Design. Get a clue

The Ferrari 430 and 612? This guy is worth his weight in gold. They can’t pay him enough to come to the U.S.

Sounds like Fiat was doing a favor to the dude from Pinifarina. The two firms have been snuggle bunnies since the beginning of time, but man what a swift kick to the Jimmie Dangles for Stephenson.

‘CaCaLover’, to infer that it was Frank’s fault is foolish of you … give it up, loser, you’re out of your league … the implication was that maybe a new designer as head could change the horrible styling direction … but I wouldn’t expect a monkey to figure that out … kill yourself, idiot.

I don’t like most of the designs that Frank Stephenson made.

In my opinion he is the most unsuccessful designer of our day. I hope Honda will pick him up, since they need him bad. That would be a huge combination: his understanding of automotive beauty and their engineering skill.
He also was a great nurturer of the talent: his XO found home at Subaru and they are much better since.

ken once told me that frank wasn’t **** back in school, but of course they were always in competition ever since school. franks’s got a touch to his designs but not sure what his deal is.. but then again, ken also got ask to leave pininfarina as the chief and now making some kit cars..
so at the end of the day, they both lost. or them eye-talians just got sick of foreign designers period.
