With slightly more than a month before its introduction at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Hyundai has released a teaser image of the 2013 Elantra Touring.
The car, which is expected to debut under its European name, the i30, joins recent Hyundai’s in utilizing the brand’s “fluidic sculpture” design language. The image reveals a car that looks to have a very similar hood, headlight and grille design to the Elantra sedan on which it is based, with a slightly reworked lower fascia offering some differentiation.
A tapering roofline and truncated rear overhang are both more pronounced on the 2013 model than the current one, helping bring the car more in line with stylish competitors like the Ford Focus hatchback. Cargo capacity might take a hit in the name of the new look, however.
Expect the Elantra Touring to use the same 148-horsepower 1.8-liter four-cylinder mill as the Elantra sedan, likely with an identical 40-mpg highway rating.
Check back for more details and live images following the Elantra Touring’s debut on September 13.
