After starring in blockbuster films like Point Break, it seems actor Gary Busey is at breaking point with a series of new ads where he shills for Kia dealerships in Pennsylvania and Texas.
Looking variously disheveled and at times downright scary, the former Hollywood movie lead puts his years of experience working with blue screens to dubious use. “Can you believe it?†Busey exhorts in the first commercial – no we can’t Gary.

The second commercial, apparently made for Halloween is a bizarre play on Busey’s fame combined with references to the Ghostbusters movie – although Busey, of course, had nothing to with those films.

The third in the selection ends in something akin to tragicomedy, as Busey tells his audience to tell the Kia dealership “Gary sent you.†Whether this will lead to a better deal for the viewer or Busey is left unsaid.

They are the types of ads that one might typically expect a faded B-grade sports hero to end up doing, or an ageing TV personality. To see a former A-list film star plumbing this genre is too desperate to fully comprehend. Ending up in B-grade movies is one thing, but ending up in B-grade commercials…?
