Hahaha...the dipshit is getting mad now, I see....good. :-P Well that's what your punk ass gets when you mess with the King 'o Truth. Go wipe your ass again, because you're polluting the room over here. And get that dildo out too...say what? Are you ready to take it in the ass, again? Thought so, ladyboy.

Oh so now suddenly you *can* see? Well perhaps now you could use those new-found eyes and learn something useful, think about what you're going to say before opening that ass of yours you call a mouth. Loser.

Sorry "Joey D", but when slapped by a monkey, I slap back.

What gets me is when you guys start to lose a debate, you resort to name calling and profanity. If you need to sink that low my willingness to listen to a word you say goes out the window. Other's opinions are fine by me, just do it respectfully.

Impulsive, why so angry? You just prove my point about including people like you in discussions. I'm not saying ban you, or I have any more right than you. i'm just saying it's a pain in the ass when you are here, that's all.

Impulsive, I have a great joke for you, one of my favorites....

Two Canadians are out camping and find themselves bored. So one says to the other, "Hey, let's play 20 Questions. I have something in mind eh, so ask away".
The 2nd Canadian thinks for a moment, "Is it something edible?"
"Yes." the first replies. The 2nd canadian thinks for another moment, "Is it moose cock?"

Quantifiably, the drop would be small and last about a day or two ... enough time for it to sink in that the drilling wouldn't provide anywhere close to what is needed globally. Your view might last a week, if that.

I won't discuss the falling US dollar, the "renewed" focus on global issues, blah, blah, blah.

Oil drilling will solve problems, because the market would react to the fact that drilling will take place and you'll see an immediate drop in price.

"Piablo", being on the northern side of our shared border and watching your news daily (if not more than you do), your last post clearly shows your ignorance and simple-mindedness in this "issue". And spewing Popular Science doesn't make you any more entitled to post here. Actually, it makes you a mindless idiot.

Reread "Hal"'s post, idiot ... yeah, like drilling will solve any of your problems .... you're an idiot.

You speak of voting "some real people in office" ... ummmmmm, your two party system really provides little in terms of options.

I tend to stay out of these "solution" discussions and leave them to geniuses like yourself (we have plenty of oil up here, you know, but that hasn't solved the price issue) who offer faulty, swiss cheese solutions written by other geniuses.

Maybe you need to re-evaluate who you are before judging others ... you have A LOT MORE to learn than I do, chump.

But as these wonderful liberals think, Bush is this evil man who himself is raising the price of gas because he wants to make more money. I don't think that is it at all. Sure if he talks about something and THE PEOPLE buy or sell oil then they affect the price of gas, so in reality the American people affect how much they pay, if what you are saying is correct.

I'm pretty sure the price of gas has nothing to do with the President.

just watch oil futures on the commodities board every time Bush gives a speech about foreign policy, iraq, etc.

you'll see the connection then. it's a direct one.

that doesn't even factor in all the oil industry giveaways, DOE policies, EPA regulation rollbacks, etc. that directly promote Big Oil interests at the expense of consumers, etc.

I'm pretty sure the price of gas has nothing to do with the President. The reason gas went up in the first place was because some Jews and Muslims in the Middle East had a tantum and shot at one another, it freaked the world out causing me to pay 3.25 a gallon to fill up my truck. They got their panties de-bunched and volia, gas started going back down.

People who attack Bush for every little thing annoy me, it's not always his fault, but he's an easy scapegoat for angry liberals who didn't come out and vote in the last election. I'm going to wager there are more liberals then conservatives in America, and when a Republican beats a Democrat, that just shows the lack of voting on the Dems part. Liberals need to quit complaining and just put up with it. And if you aren't American, you have no right to say who should be in charge of our country...that would be like me going aroud saying Tony Blair is an idiot or Horst Köhler has ruined Germany. I can't say that because I don't live there.

But with gas, Bush isn't the problem, it's the constant fighting in the Middle East that's the problem. When Jews and Muslims get a bad case of county PMS, the whole world feels it.

We did not get here in the last 5 years. It has been a continual cycle since the 60's/70's, driving us deeper each time it cycles.

Bush has provided more funds to the Alternative Energy Research center in Colorado than any other administration in US history. That doesn't let him off the hook, but a fact is a fact.

If anyone asks why this country moves too slow to get anything done, it's because people like Impulsive have the right to vote. Not that I want to take his right away, it's simply the case.

I am wasting my breath even adressing you and your laughable remarks.

Domestic oil supplies aren't large enough to make a big difference long term. ANWR contains enough oil to supply the US for 6 months. However you feel about the environmental issues its not really significant.

New Refineries haven't been built because the oil companies hasn't been investing in Refineries - even the existing ones. The beauty of being a republican is there is always someone else to blame tho' so if you want to blame Democrats for that go ahead.

Energy Independence requires
1. conservation - "waste not want not" is something every true conservative should be able to get behind.
2. new technolgies - not gonna happen overnight but there are lots of interesting things happening - American has the most innovative engineers and scientists in the world (unfortunately most of them are liberals but oh well)
3. making people pay the true cost of energy at the pump - that includes the cost of the gulf wars.

I am all for Nuclear Power if politicans address the issue of what to do with the waste and if they are built without being subsidised.

Jim, i think we agree on what we have to do, we just disagree on some areas of how to get there. I don't think your answer sounds hippie-ish at all. It's smart, it's what we have to do.

Personally, I don't think we are anywhere near an ability to move away from gasoline. And first off, 65% of a barrel of oil is used for plastics. Only 35% is used for various fuel types. So this whole discussion comes about because of how much it costs us. At this point, alternative fuels cost more than gasoline. That is why there is nothing out there as of yet. In order to bring a gallon of ethanol to market, it takes roughly 90% of the energy stored within that gallon of ethanol. That's only a 10% efficiency versus the 70% gasoline offers. Ethanol refining does not offer enough energy to be worthwhile at this point. I am more interested in technology like the guy who was featured here on LLN. The man who developed an engine with an extra cycle to include steam power. Efficient as all hell!

My suggestion to everyone, actually, Jim in La's and my suggestion to everyone, is to vote for politicians that will allow this country to drill our own, and create our own energy. New drilling, new refinieries, and new nuclear power plants.

Any of the information I just mentioned can be found on Popular Science.

"Necessity is the mother of invention."

The idea of energy independence is really an implausibility in today's reality. Supply and demand rules the economy, regardless how anyone feels about it. The problem is, oil has become such a staple in this country that it is almost as important as clean water. If we were to not have gasoline or deisal for a week, our economy would collapse. Our infrastructure would collapse. How much is it worth to everyone to prevent that from happening? There is no limit, we will pay whatever it takes. When you think of the catostrophic certainty this nation would be in without oil, it's worth going to war for in order to secure or safety.

Now "Jim in LA" has mentioned energy independence, and to not vote for the political party (assuming republicans) that's tied to oil. I ask everyone who agrees with that statement, how will the democrats achieve energy independance? This is a paradox, of wanting it both ways. Energy independence means drilling for our own oil, in the ANWR, in the Gulf Of Mexico, in Wyoming. All of these areas have been cut off due to Democrats in the name of environmentalism. We cannot build new nuclear facilities because of environmentalism. We cannot build new refineries because of environmentalism. We can't have it both ways. So we push electric cars, where is the electricity going to come from? We all know how much it costs to run a refridgerator, how much do you think a CAR is? No nuclear power, no cheap electricity.

Don't get me wrong, I think the oil industry is the most corrupt in the world. But it's only allowed due to supply, and our insatiable demand.

piablo - here's a start:

1. drill ANWR. in fact, drill EVERYWHERE. and i'm fairly pro-environment - but i'm also anti-great depressions and foreign dependency.

2. alternative fuels and energy. biofuels (B20 for diesels and E85 for fleet vehicles first, then the passenger fleet later).

3. wind/solar where practical to power stuff that shouldn't be on the grid in the first place. particularly in rural / desert locations.

all sounds rather hippie, i know, but the truth is, those losers have it right - just a case of bad messengers, right message. if we'd have focused on altfuels for the last 10 years and alt energy sources, we'd have MUCH lower overall energy costs, more competition, and less control by a handful of huge multinational corporations.

but then, considering how our "government" works, that wasn't likely to happen, now was it?

the good news is, people are waking up from their slumber and their Fear Of Scary Brown People Flying Airplanes Into Buildings and are starting to pay attention to what is happening.

our way back to a republic is through a sustained energy independence program, whether from the public or private sector. ain't gonna happen in the public sector for the next 2 years at least, but the private sector is moving well ahead with it even as we speak.

sorry for the long-winded answer.

who cares how. no body knows how. because nobody is pushing the issue. ppl just say.."yea we really should do that...well maybe next week." There is a saying along the lines of "Invention is spawned from demand" there is no new ways to fuel cars because noone is forcing the issue.

The dip in gas prices is fabricated...the republicans need all the help they can get to stay in power. other wise the Democrats win and things will look very diff very quickly. Nothing has changed in the world..."risk of supply disprution" is a load of shit. Tell me whats diff this month then in the last 12? Wait until prices go back up after january...things are going to be real bad. These low prices are going to give ppl a false sence of security. then back to +$3.00/gal...

Most of what I wanted to say has been said above ... except for a chance that some event planned by someone somewhere may surprise everyone and send prices higher than we've yet seen.

I thought it might have been Iran but Dubya will probably listen to the puppet masters and do nothing until after the elections.

Or maybe someone will use this knowledge and catch everyone off guard by using this lull as an opportunity.

In 04 prices ticked down in October when Dubya (whom I like) looked like he might lose to Kerry after the debates.

This time the GOP is really on the ropes for November. I was watching the news, and the said that Ohio has some very hotly contested GOP seats, so I went to (city)gasprices.com and looked up Ohio. What a surprise? Over the past 2 months the gas prices in Ohio have dropped far far faster than the nation as a whole. Now who'd have guessed that?

I'm no partisan, and I voted Bush and still prefer him to the alternatives at that time, but this tie to Big Oil is so obvious it's a joke.

A lot of the high oil price is potential supply disruption risk priced in so if there is a mild hurricane season and things in the middle east don't get hotter the price should decline gently, particularly as US demand cools. After the elections things might change tho.
The feds should decouple gas prices from the price of oil by hiking fossil fuel taxes and cutting income tax. The benefit would be more consisent prices and more incentive for corporations to invest in new energy technologies. Way better then pumping cash into the Middle East. Just a rant.

prices will begin to rise once the november elections have passed.

just wait and see.

oh and renton is right - we'll never see $2.00/gallon gas again, because just like we have a "new normal" after 9/11 (LA Times), we now have a "new normal" in energy pricing.

thanks, all you cretins that continue to vote against your interest and with those of the oil industry!

energy independence NOW. NO more money to arabs or exxon/chevron/conoco (within practicality).
