WOW!!! It seems just a little coincidental that all the sudden the fuel prices are going down...could it be that we are 3 months away from the mid-term elections? Could it be at all possible that our "oil tycoon" led white house is a little nervous about losing control of congress? What a way to win the hearts and souls of Americans. I can only hope that these prices are on the decline for the long-term. The winter season is closing in on us northerners quickly. It is a damn shame that hard working, honest people need to finance their heating fuel. We Americans need to hold our representation accountable for the fraud, waste, and abuse that is going on before our very eyes. The ultimate tool against the special interest groups and the corruption is the almighty vote. If America wasn't policing the globe we could very easily fund alternative enegy prduction. We could also take care of all those poor people still suffering from the aftermath of Katrina.

energy independency from lefto garbage like chavez (venezuela) and the filth of islam is a necessity....we need to utilize nuclear power, wind and solar energy to create hydrogen for our land and sea and air transport systems....we need to cut off our ties with the filth of islam ENTIRELY as well.....this savage excrement has way too much leverage power over us (US and the West)and more idiot liberal types need to awaken to the true nature of islam....it is NOT in ANY WAY the religion of peace purported by the liberal press and politicians....they are peaceful only in small numbers as it stands now here in the US....once they become a majority, then they switch on their oppression "switch"....and then it is beheading time at worst, dhimmization (THIRD class status) for those who refuse to convert to their filthy and vile belief system in the least...i digress...we cannot afford to buy ANYTHING from islamo-fascist garbage....and in turn, no goods, no trade, NO food for them either.
Hydrogen has some problems with it. One being producing the stuff. The amount of energy required to electrolize the water or manufacture it some other way will be enormous. If we can do it from nuclear power, it may make sense, however, there has to be pretty tight security for obvious reasons. The second problem is that delivery is hazardous. Remember the Hindenberg? It was hydrogen powered and we all know what happened there. The third is that, being the lightest element, the energy density is extremely low. That means, it will take huge investments in trucks and pipelines to transport it at tremendous expense. I have hear that it takes 25 trucks to deliver the energy equivalent of one tanker full of gas or diesel. Hydrogen does not make a lot of sense and there are more cost effective alternatives, in my opinion.

Jon: electric cars have a hidden exhaust...every time you plug it in to recharge, that energy has to come from somewhere. Let me see...oh, that big stinking pile of smoke that our energy company spews in the background. Plus, even *if* I would want one, I still can't buy one *today*, at least, according to this article:

The first cars will be built at a factory in England and are slated to hit the market next summer.

Hope it doesnt make morons go out and lease/buy SUVs and trucks. The price will go up again!!

I spent 30 bucks at $2.65/gallon yesterday to fill up my new Volvo S-60. Eat your heart out! :-)

Get a car, not a truck!! Your wallet will be thicker!

Jay,

The only reason that there is no Hydrogen delivery system in place is that no one is giving it enough attention / money. Let gas go to $10 a gallon and watch a viable hydrogen system come to fruition faster than you can say G.W. Bush.

No Jon, we do not need higher gas prices. It is costly to produce hydrogen, and even though I believe that is our long term answer (and ethanol being our short) currently the technology is not good enough, it would take years to get the technology in and accepted, and there is no established system of stations to fill up. You want to pay 10.00$ a gallon for 10 years or so until the FIRST hybrid car comes out? As of now ethanol is bad enough, but Hydrogen has NO system at all and would take YEARS to get one in, not to mention developement.
And I'm sure someone is then going to bring up the fact that the Europeans have gas prices twice as high than over here... which is true but remember their economy doesn't revolve around gas like ours does.

Gas prices are not high enough. The higher they get the more the public will be screaming for hydrogen-powered cars, the sooner we can get off the oil, which will also be the sooner we stop getting oil form the damn fanatical terrorist states in the ME. Best way to stop terrorism? STOP BUYING THEIR ONLY NATIONAL PRODUCT: OIL.

This is mostly collusion and price fixing we're getting lied to and screwed like the fake gas shortage in the 70's. The conspirisy goes all the way to that white house jerk, if you'll remember oil is how the bush's make all their money and they are in bed with the Saudi's and the oil companies to look the other way while we get screwed. When bush senior was in office we had the highest gas prices ever (then around a buck) now that his crooked son is in office we have unbelievable gas prices. COINCIDENCE, I DON'T THINK SO.. he should be impeached for crooked dealings after all he bribed the supreme court to get himself "appointed" president in his first term. We are supposed to elect our president not have the courts appoint one "they" wan't its against the constituion, whats next facism ?

No, I'm not a real conspiracy theorist either or a suspisious person, but seeing that one of the exon main employees (sry lost the MSN article on it) got the HIGHEST amount of retirement money in American history, and also what Henry pointed out. These gas companies are making RECORD PROFITS. There is something fishy going on...
But I also agree somewhat with what Jay said, gas prices probably won't go down to what it used to be in 2001 or so, before all of this started. I bet you after this war ends (if it EVER ends) it will go down to 2.00$ and stay there.

When it comes to the oil thing, I'm not a real conspiracy theorist, however, I can't help but think that EIA (Energy Information Agency) and the API (American Petroleum Institute) are overreporting gasoline demand in this country. The current stats say that gasoline demand is up 1.7 percent this year. I find that hard to believe in light of the current pricing stucture.Of course, these reports are keeping prices elevated.

Gasoline prices will ebb and flow a bit, but the trend will be upward unless the US goes into a recession, which appears to be happening. If there is a concerted market manipulation, prices will likely stay high, even during a recession.

On a political note, it would be interesting to see the Republicans get swept from power and the Democrats get credit for ebbing oil prices, without actually doing a damned thing.

What a world we live in. I'll be happy if gas goes down to a buck for sure, although we need real made-in America alternatives to buying foreign oil first.

We'd have even more gas if only GM owners were the only ones allowed to use any. All the other crap can just rot away from neglect and non use.

Buy GM = you get gas. The way it should be.
