Like GM’s crosstown rival Ford , GM will also be closing a crossover plant for one week due to a “critical parts shortage.”

Starting on Monday, November 2nd, GM will be closing the doors on its Delta Township crossover plant in Michigan. The closure comes as a result of what is being described as a “critical parts shortage,” according to a GM spokeswoman.

The plant facing the temporary closure is responsible for producing the Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia crossovers. The current production rates call for 900 Enclaves and Acadias to be produced each day – creating a 3,600 vehicle supply drop off due to the closure.

During the close GM stated that approximately 2,700 hourly and salaried employees will be out of work for the week.

Despite the production crews being temporarily laid off, GM says that some skilled workers will continue to work at the plant in order to retool for the production of the Chevrolet Traverse in the near future.

Although GM’s spokesperson Heidi Magyar would not comment on which part or supplier was responsible, Magyar did say, “At this this time we anticipate only being down one week. We’ll continue to monitor the situation and notify the employees.”
