General Motors in talks to sell Isuzu

03/30/2006, 8:15 AM

By admin

General Motors acknowledged today that it is discussing the possible sale of Isuzu shares owned by GM. General Motors recently sold its controlling stake in Subaru to Toyota. GM also sold its stake in Suzuki earlier this month. In a statement to the press, the company said, “Isuzu is a core alliance partner with which GM has many long-term mutually beneficial projects and the level of activity between the two companies continues to increase. GM would not expect any sale of its Isuzu shares to have any effect on this important strategic alliance. There can be no assurance that any transaction will result from these discussions and it would, therefore, be inappropriate to comment further.”

Why is Isuzu content to let its sales slip from over 120,000 just 5 or 6 years ago to 12,000 today? They might not be doing all that poorly as a company, seeing they don’t really seem to care about their reduced presence here in the states, but hey, they should at least have some dignity — some Isuzu pride, if you will.
