German Prince Albert von Thurn und Taxis is not unfamiliar with GT Racing, having taken part in the German GT Championship in the 2007 and 2008 seasons. He has also raced in the FIA GT3 European Championship. The incident in question unfolded during qualifying at the Slovakiaring where he is taking part in the 2012 FIA GT World Championship.
While the aluminum chassis of the Lamborghini has been totaled, the Prince managed to escape relatively unscathed. As one of the youngest billionaires in the world, he certainly won't have any problems buying a new one, or two. In fact, the Prince and his team were able to source another GT-ready Lamborghini quickly, and were having it shipped out to the track.
In the interview below, the Prince talks us through what happened, explaining that the car's tires were still a little cold and it understeered a high speed corner. The Prince opened the steering to take advantage of the run-off, but struggled to correct it. It then caught a bump and after which he was reduced to being a passenger - not unlike being in the back seat of a taxi ironically enough.
