Fortune’s list of the 500 largest companies in the world by revenue ranked General Motors 5th, one slot ahead of Toyota Motor Corporation, an outcome that’s expected to reverse next year. GM’s revenues were just under $3 billion more than Toyota’s – a minor difference in the Fortune 500.
GM had revenues of $207.35 billion last year, while Toyota had revenues of $204.75 billion. Despite GM’s lead in revenues, Toyota managed to sell 128,000 more cars globally last year than GM did.
Daimler Chrysler AG ranked 8th, with revenues of $190.19 billion, Ford Motor Company ranked 12th, with revenues of $160.13 billion and Volkswagen AG ranked 16th, with revenues of $132.32 billion.
Rounding out the rest of the top-10 auto industry firms were: Honda Motor Company, Nissan Motor Company, PSA Peugeot Citroen, Hyundai Motor Company and Fiat Group Automobiles.
