GM was apparently the first to wake up to the Chinese market potential. Let’s see if it can defend its turf.

injunraiv: “And in the true spirit of Christmas, SUCK ON THIS 11:15.” Something to suck on. Good gift for the Fluffer. (I couldn’t resist).

Madcapp: “They oughta try selling the good Buicks here.”
One of the good Buicks is sold here. I own it.

1115: “Maybe if they sold a good Buick here people would buy them.”
Maybe. They have been, and some don’t sell well.

“It still would take 20 years plus of recalls for Toyota to be considered unreliable as anything out of Gm.”
BY WHOM?
“Buick should study what makes them sell in China and do the same here and maybe they can sell to someone who wasn’t around during the FDR administration.”
That’s a good one. I was born during the Vietnam era.

SS4LIFE “once Buick switched over from RWD to FWD their vehicles became … boring. “
Yep.

“I think Buick is tied for first with L---s in reliability. “
In the biased J.D. Power rankings. Looking objectively, Buick kicks their asses!

I agree about both the Lucerne and Riviera.

C6Racer: YouTube video on the Tundra construction site … the crew building the plant all drove fords.

1115: “Yea well they got Truck of the year ….” Enough dssaid. The award was given out before the second recall, and it was essentialy running unopposed.

Commodore: the scary part about the U.S. “rivalry” with China is that they refucse to bend on anything, and we go “oh-kay.” Human rights? Pollution?

“You all know that the Accord and Camry are more reliable and that is a proven fact”
(Imitating Reagan) There it goes again!

Just for the record I have proven my points and you have not been able to disprove them No one has been able to show me that the Malibu has a higher resale and can go for the long haul
Also the Accord and Camry are the benchmarks and if they weren’t why is the Malibu constantly being compared to them??

You all know that the Accord and Camry are more reliable and that is a proven fact
You can quote all the irrelevant articles you want but not one says the Malibu is just as reliable and has a better build quality and higher resale than the Accord or Camry!

Commo tries desperately to clean the slate on both cars (Accord and Mali boo) which is a good idea for his argument BC it negates the Malibu’s shoddy past and tries to erase the proven record of the class leading benchmark Accord. He can fool MHW JJ( who slants the truth ) JJt Impulsive and any other import hating ignorant American but it wont work with me or the smart American consumer

I understand that its stubborn American ignorance that is making you believe that GM has made a worthy competitor but until proven the Malibu is the last one with a more attractive exterior and a wraparound interior like the Japanese did in 1995
MHW JJ Commo I think its great that you believe in America enough to lie for GM and even stand by their inferior product but the consumers that have sense buy the better product which happens to come from Japan
The only real argument is which is better the Camry or the Accord. The Americans don’t matter at this point and wont until 2017

How? How are Toyonda superior? And I hope you aren't stupid enough to say the old "because they have the best resale, and no recalls, etc"

Because they clearly don't have the best resale (we will see about CTS resale. Oh, and you still haven't shown where you get your own resale stats. SITE LINKS, not just "KBB". Besides, we already know what KBB says)
Also, they clearly don't have any less recalls. In 1988, maybe, but (1) it isn't 1988 and (2) GM was selling many times more cars than Toyonda back then so of course their recalls were higher. Now, in the years that GM and Toyoda have been selling about the same number of cars, Toyoda has been dropping massive recalls on those unfortunate enough to buy their products without considering the alternatives.

So how are Toyonda superior (please tell me something I haven't heard before + prove what you are saying with cited sources - give LINKS, I don't know how I can be any clearer)

Massive recalls lol
You like to spin everything so I will need some evidence of these "massive recalls" lol
Show the history and it affected Toyota Resale value
I never said Toyota or Honda are flawless they are just superior to the american car companies
The Malibu may have a decent resale but judging by Gms track record I doubt it. Its a car made for Enterprise. It will sell well inthe beginiing most cars do when they are introduced but in the long run it will show its true GM colors and have high recalls and breakdown on the side of the road
Sorry I dont bet especially not with guys like you lol
The CTS has a decent resale ...except for when compared to lets say an Acura Lexus or Infiniti lol
This is too funny

O, and I cited 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007 Toyoda recalls to demonstrate that Toyoda did not have a flawless track record as you said. I wanted to show you that 2007 was not Toy's first year of massive recalls, that they had a history of them

1115: This is the smartest thing you have said recently
". It is a lot better than the previous and I wish it success"

Of course then you go on to say the usual biased "anything with a T or H badge are the best" so... Back to arguing :) Resale: You always seem to talk about resale when you get in a tight spot. Now, you remember that the Corvette is the top resale car right? So how can you stereotype GM as having bad resale when the car with the best resale IS a GM!! Of course, cars like the Aztec or the Saturn L-series, or the LaCrosse have poor resale. But that is because (1) those cars look bad inside and out, (2) they are often sold to rental fleets which depresses their value and (3) they are not in high demand. Those are just some of the things that could determine resale value and they lack them. Now, if you take a good looking, in high demand, non-rental car like the brand new Malibu, you can bet your ass that it will have great resale (and so will the CTS, or Camaro, or G8, or Corvette, or Enclave, etc.)

Send me a Buick from China right now! I wonder what GM quality is like in China? Prudence would dictate that they would have learned a lesson from what they did to their reputation in North America in the 80's with cheap quality. But this is GM and you usually have managers that have to be beat repeatedly before learning lessons.

I’m sure that Honda resale is equal to or better than Toyota VW hmm
It’s not GM and that’s the point of out argument
Do you acknowledge that GM still has recalls and is not in the same league as Honda or Toyota?
I thought 2003 was sooo long ago in automotive years for you I have shown evidence of GM recalls all the way up to 2006 and LLN showed a recall recently
It’s so obvious that you really want GM to be a contender but it won’t happen by forcing the situation
I will say that I was impressed with the Malibu when I saw it in person but it’s not a proven car and only time will tell. It is a lot better than the previous and I wish it success but a smart buyer should go with a proven winner and the winners happen to have Honda and Toyota badges on them

First off, great job GM! That is a pretty big deal, considering how competitive China can be with virtually every automaker pushing their cars over there. And its pretty incredible to see that kind of sales momentum. 100,000 in 2002 and then a 1000% (10 times) increase to 1 million in 2007.

Pedro Miguel - wow, you seem really educated on this subject. Can you use your expertise to tell me what kind of vehicles sell well in México? REALLY crap ones? Or none at all?

autonutt - China is an economic threat to us. A lot of our companies manufacturing operations are there, a lot of our imports come from there, a lot of our debt is held by China, and a lot of our investment dollars are going there. We might be making a couple quick dollars there right now, but this will all bite us in the ass when China becomes our equal and we get into conflict with them. THEY are the ones that are rapidly expanding their economy right now, they are building all these new skyscrapers, corporations, etc.

1115 says "Toyotas still have their reliability build quality and high resale". Do you not read KBB which says that Toy resale is not the best? That Volkswagen, and even Honda are better than Toy? That CR pulled off the Camry and Tundra off of the "automatically recommended list" because of poor build quality? That Toyota has been issuing massive recalls for the past, NOT one, but several years (I have shown you proof of this until at least 2003, it could possibly go back further), Do you acknowledge anything people say? I mean, if you boss said you were fired from your Wendy's job, would you ignore what he was saying and just coming back tomorrow? Because right now you seem to be ignoring the fact that we disprove everything you say and then you say it all over again as if no one challenged you on it..

First off, great job GM! That is a pretty big deal, considering how competitive China can be with virtually every automaker pushing their cars over there. And its pretty incredible to see that kind of sales momentum. 100,000 in 2002 and then a 1000% (10 times) increase to 1 million in 2007.

Pedro Miguel – wow, you seem really educated on this subject. Can you use your expertise to tell me what kind of vehicles sell well in México? REALLY crap ones? Or none at all?

autonutt – China is an economic threat to us.

1115 says “Toyotas still have their reliability build quality and high resale”. Do you not read KBB which says that Toy resale is not the best? That Volkswagen, and even Honda are better than Toy? That CR pulled off the Camry and Tundra off of the “automatically recommended list” because of poor build quality? That Toyota has been issuing massive recalls for the past, NOT one, but several years (I have shown you proof of this until at least 2003, it could possibly go back further), Do you acknowledge anything people say?
The Buick in the picture is made in Australia and is based on a long wheelbase version of the Pontiac G8 - Down under it is sold as a Holden Statesman or Caprice and is a very nice car to drive and ride in. They are also sold in the Middle Eastern countries as Buick as well - go to www.holden.com.au to see the full range of Holden vehicles made down here - it might make you slightly envious when you see the toys we can buy from the Holden Special Vehicle Division

The problem with Buick over in North America is that for the last 20 years anything that came out of Buick was anything but exciting. And once Buick switched over from RWD to FWD their vechicles became less exciting and boring. However one of the reasons why they tended to older people was because compared to other GM brands, their build and quality didn't suffer or (as much). I think Buick is tied for first with Lexus in reliability. However Buick finally is getting some real style back into their brands. Something they used to be known for (as they were up until the mid 60's) With products like the Enclave, Lucerne, and re-designed Lacrosse they are starting to get some of their Mojo back. ( The Lucerne needs to be RWD). I hope Buick brings back the Riviera. The concept was awesome. That or something like the Velite. As for Toyota their cars are becoming more and more boring which is why every Camry or Avalon I see is being driven by a white haired 60 year old man.

companies like Toyota ARE not losing their reputation. Import haters are just jumping the gun
Toyotas still have their reliability build quality and high resale
It still would take 20 years plus of recalls for Toyota to be considered unreliable as anything out of Gm
Buick should study what makes them sell in China and do the same here and maybe they can sell to someone who wasnt around during the FDR administration

Yeah that'd be sweet if they brought the Zeta Park Avenue over here. But GM probably won't due to the overlap of RWD Zeta chasis sedans over in the U.S. I'm not surprised though GM isn't as stupid as everyone thinks. They knew that China was going to be an emerging market a couple decades ago and did their homework. Also tripleonefive, Buick's reputation as well as the rest of GM is doing alot better while companies like Toyota is losing their reputation.
