GM's CAMI plant in Ingersoll, Ontario was previously in charge of all Equinox and Terrain production, but that single plant couldn't keep up with consumer demand, prompting GM to look to its underutilized Oshawa plant. Under the new plan, the CAMI plant will ship Equinox bodies to Oshawa for final assembly and paint.
"The incredible efforts of the teams at CAMI and Oshawa will better enable us to meet soaring customer demand for the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain," said Kevin Williams, president and managing director of GM of Canada.
GM says the move will allow it to produce between 60,000 and 80,000 additional Equinox and Terrain models per year.
