Fuel by strong demand, General Motors is once again increasing production of its popular Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain crossover vehicles.
GM says it will boost production of the crossover twins at its Ingersoll, Ontario plant to meet booming demand. GM will hire as many as 100 new workers at the plant and will also speed up the production line speed. The changes should net an extra 50 vehicles a day, increasing total production to more than 1,100 units per day.
The Ingersoll plant has been struggling to keep up with demand for about the last two years, with the plant running on three shifts and Saturday overtime.
Sales of the Chevrolet Equinox increased 33 percent to 15,497 units last month, bringing the nameplate’s year-to-date sales to 145,035. GMC sold 6,910 units of its Terrain last month – up 45 percent – netting a yearly sales count of 63,451.
Late last year Chevrolet was forced to move some Equinox production to its Oshawa, Ontario plant to keep up with demand.
