Just a few days ago it looked like the CAW would suspend contract talks with General Motors until later this summer, but CAW president Buzz Hargrove has announced that a tentative agreement has been reached after a meeting that lasted through the night. The CAW also announced a similar deal has been agreed upon with Chrysler .
GM confirmed the deal with the CAW earlier this morning, according to Automotive News.
It is expected that Chrysler will announce its deal with the CAW before day’s end. “We have an agreement in principle on all the outstanding issues,” Hargrove said of the Chrysler agreement. “Our people are working on the language.”
Both deals are expected to mirror the ratified three year agreement with Ford, which omitted a two-tier wage system but included further buyout plans.
Ford ’s contract with the CAW covers about 9,000 workers, with the GM and Chrysler deals affecting another 23,000 Canadian workers.
