From an old time GM 12 volt installation technicians point of view....

Well that is just what was expected, was'nt it?
GM's responsible for it and as usual,
shifts blame to everyone else, then cuts an runs.

Total mismanagement again, and now, a loss
for many American auto workers and customers.

So, ok, instead of sulking about it till I died,
early last year, I saw the writing on the wall and then
I designed and started selling a product that solves
the faulty GM PASSLOCK systems that GM is notorious
for. To see how I get this done, go to www.GMPASSLOCK.com .

It works to correct a real problem that GM will not/can not
recall. & now more than ever, Saturn owners who drive in
under 30 degree temps will need it to fix they're issue for good.

This is of course is good for me and my business sure,
but I need to vent here a little... As an AMERICAN, I am ashamed
at how this all washed out. More American business gone
to incompetent management. It's not the workers, or the Unions.
It's the way the management kept a blind eye on it's USA side
of they're business. :>(

It boggles the mind how GM dangles the jobs of so many employees
in front of them, then pulls the rug out last minuite.

Like Snoopy pulling the football away just as Charlie Brown
tries to kick it, it's bad form, bad business and VERY
Bad planning.

I hope another company see's the value of keeping the
doors open at Saturn. This vehicle's sales methods
and practices were sound.

The parent company and it's leadership were not.

Unfortunate.

Beekcake,

The KAPPA cars went for under $30K, even in top trim. If Dealers were reaming you where you are I have no idea, though the North East is typically over priced on everything. I don;t know where in creation you are and frankly I don't care.

The 350z Roadster started at over $30K, a more than $5k premium over the coupe. The S2000 starts at just under $40K. You say the KAPPA were not enough car for the price, I'm glad you were willing to pay more and get decidedly less.

Based on everything else you wrote, I would have to say you are either full of Sh-t or you really have no idea what you are talking about.

The S2000 is probably THE worst on torque of any sports car to come out of JAPAN in the last 10 years. One of the reasons the S2000 sucks on F/econ (you look at stuff like this to know more about why a car does what it does or does not) is because it has to spool up so far just to have enough "get up and go" to get up and go. The Car just tanked everywhere but the track and even then it got beat by C5s and C6s, Z-cars, and the RX8, which has one of the weakest engines in a sports car today. That happily belongs to the MX-5.

You espouse the same weak BS about the CORVETTE's interior as every other putz who has never so much as done a sit in on a C4, C5, or the current C6. The same weak kay-rap from import freaks who can not stand that the CORVETTE is still one of the best sports cars in the world. I seriously doubt you were even allowed to get near a MERCEDES SLK with the door unlocked to make a comparison. Here's a hint: Don't show up wearing jeans and wifebeater!

the critics loved the SOLSTISE and the SKY because they were eminently more drivable than the the S2000, better on gas and the eyes too. They would agree that the car needed more of a trunk but it was hardly a deal breaker. HELLO, McFLY! It's a sports car not a family sedan!

You say you are 6 foot and 150lbs? how old are you? 16, 17, if that? It's hard to tell these days.

You're assessments are so far wrong, dated, "copy and pasted", and hack-kneed across the board the only explanation is that you have never so much as touched any of these cars in real life. To say you drove an S2000 AND a CORVETTE and can't tell the difference between driving a four-pot and a V8 is beyond incredulous! and the clutch went on the VETTE? A Clutch made to handle better than 1000hp stock? hoity-toity sports car critics pan it for feeling like it came from a truck... guess what. IT DID!!! Why reinvent what already works and won't break. STOP MAKING SH_T UP!

If you are a fan of the Z-car, like I am, then fine just say so. @$$-mouth is not at all appreciated.

"The S2000 was great and actually has torque down low despite the fact its a 4 cyl. "

You're a strange dude Beefcake - I've never, EVER heard someone describe an S2000 as having good torque down low. Especially after driving a Corvette.

"350Z Roadster instead. It’s fast, pretty torquey, reliable, "
I think the 350ZR is one of the best all-around roadsters when you consider power, handling, reliability, "

You keep mentioning reliability. Don't hold your breath with the 350Z. Especially if you own a manual transmission, because you WILL be experiencing clutch and transmission issues shortly.

And what the hell is a 350 ZR??? No such animal with an R.

Kinda sad, but they just didn't do this one right... Even though there is a very limited RWD Convertible market it in the US, it just didn't have enough for the price. I test drove the Sky and the Sky Redline during my shopping. I also drove a 2004 Vette (Aniv. edition), Merc SLK 350, Porsche Boxter S, Nissan 350ZR, and a Honda S2000. I loved the power and handling of the Vette, but the one I found had a clutch going, horrible interior quality, manual soft top, and the dealer wanted too much money for it. The only Merc I could find was an auto, the Porsche was ugly (fun car though). The S2000 was great and actually has torque down low despite the fact its a 4 cyl. I nearly bought it but I veered off and got a 2004 350Z Roadster instead. It's fast, pretty torquey, reliable, nice looking, electric-operated soft top, and handles fairly well despite its weight (even better with 265/285 tires front/rear).

The problem with the Sky was I hated the 5 speed manual, I want a 6 speed, it was too damn small (and i'm a small guy, 6' 150 lbs), no trunk space with the top down (which is a manual soft top), and too much turbo lag / not enough torque. Once the boost kicked in it was fast, but I found it really annoying cruising and getting nothing when putting my foot down in upper gears.

The Sky however is very sexy looking, and has a pretty awesome looking, and good quality interior. But the bad things were too much...and not really worth the price they were asking for it.

I think the 350ZR is one of the best all-around roadsters when you consider power, handling, reliability, looks, and price. Some people hate how it looks. I like it... however the soft top is ugly.

This is one sad day in car news history. This car really opened the eyes of many Americans, especially mines. I personally loved the Sky. The only thing I wish they had done for the end of its production was to design the interior with a more quality. Like a handstiched leather dashboard and door panels. This car will be greatly missed

i appreciate pushing the styling envelope a bit, but these models were a bit poorly designed...the trunk is too egregious a thing to overlook and proclaim these were great cars...they were intensely flawed for utility...if you can fit more in a 350z, you have a problem, and these cars had that problem...that's why for the "take the convertible on a weekend road trip" crowd you had to go miata, or with some other roadster that at least had enough trunk space to take 2 overnight bags...

these cars looked good, and the solstice gxp had some muscle, but they were 'around town' only, due to the limited trunk space...fatal flaw...

GM needs to redesign the Stingray, reopen this plant, and get them down the line and offer it on the same price structure and engine options as the Solstice/ Sky

Pepper-That is because GM has just sworn off all RWD.I do not get it. They along with Honda are the only ones freaking over it. HEll, Hyundai is adding rear wheel drive cars to its portfolio and others continue with RWD. GM needs to realize if they want to successfully create luxury cars and roadsters, they need a RWD platform.

R.I.P.

Great little cars. I preferred the styling of the Solstice, and with the combination of good handling and a 2.0L Ecotec engine...they are a potent little package as well. They are quite popular (and successful) in SCCA club racing too.

My only complaint would be the interior. It's not awful, but the words "bland" and "plastic ocean" do come to mind. I don't really see complaining about storage space as a valid point (you can get a duffel bag in there) because after all it is supposed to be a small 2 seater sport car...not a station wagon/minivan/SUV monstrosity like the majority of the US insist on driving. Priorities people! Even if that is an issue for people, it still makes a great second car...

A modern day Fiero. A great concept poorly executed. These twins had looks to kill but as a daily driver they left much to be desired. I suspect the majority will be snapped up by empty nesters to be used as sunny day toys which will only help their status as somewhat of a collectible in the future.

A tragic story really. Solstice/Sky was one of the best modern cars GM made. Are we back to "Miata stands alone." in the realm of small roadsters again? S2K is gone too.

I own a Solstice GXP. No it doesn't have storage space but this thing is fast, fun and gets 30 mpg. There is a market for an affordable American made roadster and now with no options i will have to buy "Made in Japan" for my next vehicle. Does GM care NO!

I liked the look of the Sky (stupid name), but the solstice looked like the flamboyant twin version of the sky. Why they needed two versions, dunno.

Bank-these cars were nothing like the Thunderbird. Borat-These cars were successes, but were eliminated due to the sale and phase out of Saturn and Pontiac. Unfornately, they chose to put the Wilmington assembly plant into Liquidation Motors.

Love the Sky and it still turns heads today. We looked at trading the Prelude for one, but the fit and finish of the roof and the original price gouging scared us off at the end. Otherwise it was a fine looking vehicle

One thing you can't knock is the look of GM products now. They are finally bringing good looking vehicles to the marketplace. I think Honda/Toyota has a long way to go--their autos are boring run-of-the-mill vehicles. Props go to GM for bringing such a unique and affordable product such as the SKY and Solstic to the freeway!

They were nice little cars - the interiour quality could have been a bit better and the could have used a bit more trunk space, but as a fun two seater convertible they were not bad, esp. considering what they sold for.

A shame, while they could\'ve been better executed, I still kind of liked the little buggers. The death of any roadster should be mourned for it is their spirit which is at the root of the passion for the automobile - freedom and mobility;-)

These twins are terribly underwhelming in person when considering even modest expectations of practicality such as storage bins and a boot that would at least hold a couple of duffel bags for a getaway weekender. They won't be missed. I very rarely see either of these ragtops on southern California roads (even after the few years' worth of availability). The roads here are ruled by Miatas, S2000s, and even Z4s and Boxters.

And Dear Uncle of Mine why don't you go buy yourself another beater Pontiac you cheap skate, because they is the only way you could buy a Defunct Pontiac. Good for nothin! Cheap ass. Embezzler in Junk.

Bankruptcy2009, you could not be more wrong. Those cars were pretty good. I looked at one when they first came out for the fun of it, and it was nice. Good interior, sharo styling, impressive engine, and all-around a pretty nice little bugs-in-teeth roadster.

The Death of another junk car from GM. Yeah the sky and solstice what trash. And my Uncle thought these were such a great cars too. The Moron Drives a huge boat but talks about getting something fuel efficient what a Hypocrite. At Best the Sky and Solstice were niche vehicles something GM had no business building especially since their business model sucks in the first place.
