You have a lot of brand equity with the current logo GM - keep it! Logo fads come and go and in 10 years people will be latched onto something else. You don't change your logo on a whim. Make products that compete and you won't have to worry about what your logo looks like...

they might consider making it emerald green. Also, maybe since the american taxpayers own the company, we should all get the option to vote on new models/ high profile choices like this.

iluvamcars,
Like I said they haven't change anything.

1. GM still has not close dealerships. Saying they are going to close them and actually having them closed is different. Since they are still open today July 11, 2009 and will continue to be open till summer of 2010 I would say they haven't changed that.
2. GM said they were going to sell Hummer, Saturn but as of TODAY July 11, 2009 GM still owns them. So they haven't changed that.
3. GM said they would stop making Pontiac but as of Today July 11, 2009 GM is still producing Pontiacs. So that hasn't change.
4. GM does have some control over sales. If they did not have so many dealerships competing over other GM dealerships they could get more sales. If GM did not rebadge so many of theirs cars they could actually sale some cars. Ask a GM person if there is a difference between a 2009 GMC sierra 1500 and 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and they would give you thousands but the truth is that is the same truck. I know they could sale many more cars if they didn't have all those brands to compete against within their own company.
5. Last you said GM is in the process of launching new vehicles but truth is they haven't. Truth is they haven't launched anything new that we haven't seen already in 2009. The only new thing is the 2010 Camaro and your right it came out in 2006 and it takes them 3 to 4 years to develop a car.

I just hope you’re wrong because if it takes GM 3 to 4 years to develop a car then GM is F*****. Look what happen with the Camaro. Spent 3 to 4 years developing the Camaro just to have it recalled days after going on sale. GM is F*****.

Thanks GM keep it up

CarsNut -

Sorry about the bad reports etc etc .......but like i said before, i still may get the Tahoe !

I probably am asking for trouble when the warranty runs out - but then again my Honda
CRV 4wd manual i have used pretty hard the last 7 years - the throttle body with the COMPUTER
CRAPPED OUT at less than 79,000 miles ..........i didn't think complete computer failures
happened anymore ...........SURPRISE !

At least Honda paid COMPLETELY for the 2k it cost to fix them - because of "goodwill" and the company rep. i got a hold of was very kind.

I wonder if GM would do the same ??? ;-)

Damn it, sctdiverdown, either you or J. D POWER is lying. The other day they said GM quality is on par with Toyota now. A 2 yr old vehicle can't have a complete transmission failure man!! Just when I start to reconsider GM products you turn me off. Hey, I am just kidding, ok? Your story reminds me of the Olds Omega I bought 20 yrs ago and it still scares the heck out of me today.

llt21- I will re-list the 5 things you said:
1. They are still working on closing dealers, and making some sell used cars only. The dealership up the street from my house was forced to sell used cars only.
2. They hare in the pprocess of selling Saturn to Penske, Hummer is supposed to be sold to the Chinese, and Saab was sold i think.
3. Production of Pontiac vehicles will begin to end. The Vibe goes in August while the G6 goes in September.
4. They cannot control saels, the customers have to buy cars in order for sales to rise.
5. They are in the process of launching a ton of new vehicles. The new Lacrosse, Equniox, SRX, CTS wagon, etc. are all going on sale real soon here. And its not like they haven't had new models for 2008 and 2009! And, the Camaro has not been around since 2005. The concept has, and they didn't just take the concept and add new bumpers and what not! No, they spent the usual three to four years developing the production model, a model that would fit the standards and qualifications. It takes about three to four years to develop a car! Not just a few months! OMG!
Get your facts straight before you post idiot. You probably know not a thing about cars!

This is what NMOFGM would say: "This logo rocks. The reliablilty and quality is the best. Much better than the sh!tty quality and relibilty of Toyota, Honda, Ford, Chrysler, etc. logos." Lets wait and see! No but this logog reminds me of Dollar Tree. The color is too bright. The shade of the green needs to be much darker, a darker green that would make it look more classy.

jake, i know you're not trying to dig me personally, no worries there...i happen to disagree with a few of your statements, though...energy demand isn't going to go down...it's just not...with the population on the rise across the globe all the forecasts i've ever seen see an upward slope to energy demand long into the future...especially with countries like india and china industrializing the demand for energy is only going in one direction...

and when the cost of energy goes up, demand doesn't accordingly shrink...exxon made record profits last year, and by record i mean exxon posted the single largest profit ever seen by any corporation on the face of the planet in recorded history...ever...demand didn't shrink at the same level as prices grew, otherwise exxon wouldn't make record profits when prices spike, they would break even...

as for air quality doing harm, there is a factual link between poor air quality and cancer (http://wcbstv.com/health/Smog.Pollution.Los.2.1058633.html) ...it's really common sense, you just don't really want to believe it because it goes against your political views...dirty air is harmful to your health...the degree of harm can be debated, but i disagree that there is no effect...

shaver posted here last week that there's been a big difference in his experience growing up in LA between the smog seen a decade ago and the reduced smog seen today...st. louis doesn't have good air quality, we're not in a basin where stale smog builds up here, but this isn't a clean city by any stretch...go live in seattle for a while, or some place with cleaner air, and you can detect the difference just walking around outside...

but you're right, we all have our axes to grind, i just happen to think cleaning up the air is a good thing and not something to fight tooth and nail...it's not the primary reason for increasing efficiency, but it's a nice side benefit and worth the effort...

as for air quality doing harm, there is a factual link between poor air quality and cancer (http://wcbstv.com/health/Smog.Pollution.Los.2.1058633.html) …it’s really common sense, you just don’t really want to believe it because it goes against your political views…dirty air is harmful to your health…the degree of harm can be debated, but i disagree that there is no effect…

shaver posted here last week that there’s been a big difference in his experience growing up in LA between the smog seen a decade ago and the reduced smog seen today…st. louis doesn’t have good air quality, we’re not in a basin where stale smog builds up here, but this isn’t a clean city by any stretch…go live in seattle for a while, or some place with cleaner air, and you can detect the difference just walking around outside…

but you’re right, we all have our axes to grind, i just happen to think cleaning up the air is a good thing and not something to fight tooth and nail…it’s not the primary reason for increasing efficiency, but it’s a nice side benefit and worth the effort…

no dont do it. The Green fad will go away eventually and you will have to change the logo again. Spend time and money working on something like making the lineup more stylish and better.

Commission a study, then a team, then a study to study the team, make some prototypes, ponder, push upstream, delay, restudy, restudy the team that designed the prototypes, make new prototypes, issue bogus press releases, vacillate, ask for more money for another study, hire outside consultants...

Fast track this process by printing out a large logo, put in on the conference table, call everyone up for a lunch on some really crappy food, wait for them to barf on said logo. Pick your shade of green. Job done.

Every year or so, my company changes their logo. It's a pain in the @$$ when they do, because O suddenly have to change all of our promotionals and identifiers, and that takes time that I could be using to do other things. However, this is a change that may actually help GM for the better. Green is a major fad these days, just as "living large" was 10 years ago. As stupid as this seems, I agree with Johnny in that it will bring the sheeple that currently buy Toyota.

It does crack me up when corporations put their collective minds together to decide on a color. It reminds me of the movie Office Space when they would have a meeting set with the meetings agenda being, "To plan the next meeting".

Do it or don't do it, but quit leaking "news" like this to the associated press.

leftwing....

I'm not going to get into too much debate on this, for one I know you are around me somewhere in the Lou, so I don't want to see my GTI taken out, but on the green saving money point - I don't think any company saves money on being green. It's not that they don't save energy, but the capital they put out to be green in the first place (unless it's just simple fixes which I'm all for like double siding copies) takes more time and the returns they see are generally minimal, if any. Someday, if energy costs 10x more than now it will be worth it, but then demand will go down lowering prices, so it's all relative. There is also little proof that our air quality in most metropolitan areas around where we live does us that much harm. We don't live in a bowl like Mexico city and global climate shifts are as associated to sunspots more than anything we've ever done.

I'm not putting you down at all, I just disagree. You have all the power to do what you feel is right and push politicians you think will help, I just would rather spend resources on something more worthwhile.

Think harder about the green logo, it makes some sense although a little silly. Reflect those green intentions with actual green cars. Simple labeling doesn't do a thing like putting a V symbol on a non-V Caddy, I hate that! Or like those AMG posers putting kompressor & AMG badges on little C230's- get real!

Lose the "GM Next" bit for sure, stay simple with something like GM2 or the likes.

If they change their logo, that will be the only thing they have changed since getting loans from the government. The reason they want to change it to green is because all the money they got from the government. 50 Billion plus maybe another 20 Billion when the exit chapter 11.

What has GM changed since getting their bailout?
1. They haven't closed any dealerships like chrylser.
2. They haven't sold any other brands.
3. They are still making pontiacs even though they said they would stop.
4. Their sales are still down despite offer 0% for 72 months.
5. They still offer the same vehicles. Nothing they sale is new. and don't say the camaro is because it has been around since 2005 as a concept then when the got the government bailout they were able to put it in production.

Well the only thing i can think of that they have changed, is getting rid of Rick.

Thanks GM keep it up.

I say lets make it blue - with red lettering.

Just to reflect where the money is comming from and what type of profit they are showing - red for losses and red/.blue for the red and blue states funding this whole mess.

Don't they have more important things to worry about?

OK, I have kept quiet long enough. This green thing is BS. Also, GM consolidation of brands is a sham. For example, why have GMC if medium duty is shut down? and the SRS? just a vVUE in a fancy dress made in Silao Mexico. The G* is a winner, yet eliminated! And the 'new small car'? That won’t fly unless it gets 60 MPG on gas (not a hybrid). FRITZ, PUT YOUR ENGINEERING INTO POWERTRAIN!!
GM needs to think about how they handle people internally. Everyone is led to believe that there is a 'career path', and everyone has to be a manager, unless they are useless, then they are relegated to mundane tasks, not terminated. There is no creativity allowed unless you are one of the ‘selected’ for advancement. That has to change, or GM needs to change their color to brown and the name should be GM LAST.

I would really like to know how much these ass clowns are being paid to think up this sh!t. Change their logo to green? I almost puked. Although since our moronic government is now effectively in charge of GM, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. So all the stupid sheep who voted for Obama will now buy GM products because their logo is green? Just by changing their logo doesn't make them environmentally friendly...even a 2-yr old could figure that out...

Instead of going "green" - how about working on real problems - like the current state
of affairs with how they are squeezing their suppliers so badly on price, their electrical
parts are suffering ........Bose radios, dash clusters, and HVAC system actuators failing
on new Tahoes. No excuses !

My brother in laws 2007 Tahoe had complete transmission failure at 25,000 miles.

It's a shame because i really like the new Tahoes for safety, room and their interiors -
But i don't want to get nickle and dimed to death when problems arise at 60,000 miles ......

All the manufactures are guilty of it - it comes down to price of course, but
really GM, if you want to change you image - ACHIEVE BETTER QUALITY AND REPUTATION, NOT "GREEN" FOR THE SAKE OF RE-INVENTION.

luckily hyper-critical folks like you all don't really represent the majority of car buyers...considering the bankruptcy situation, a logo change may not be that bad an idea to help launch the new image for the leaner and hopefully meaner GM...i think going "green" is a bit stereotypical now and it seems bandwagony, so that aspect i don't really respect, but i don't begrudge them changing the logo...

jake, you baited me with the $ vs environment thing, so i'll bite...it's not just about $...as i've said here before, and i'll probably say it again, nothing in life is so simple you can ascribe it to a single cause or effect...going green has multiple benefits...lower $ and a better environment...poor air quality causes cancer, that's a fact...if you're anti-cancer, you're happy with better air quality...

Red would be the logical choice. They have been bleeding Red for a while now and could save a buck if they just concentrated the bleeding on their logos.

not creative. not commendable, not anything but a dumb idea. thier "re-invention" idea has already taken stage by saying that they are the "NEW GM," so a color change (and a crappy one, at that) isn't going to do anything but make ppl wish they'll never come out of Ch 11. Lame

Looks like the green I see on import tuners. That says obnoxious, not "green". And after growing up with that logo, why change it? I don't even understand why Toyota changed theirs. And Nissan simplified theirs. In fact, when has changing the logo ever changed a company? Besides Datsun turning into Nissan.
