the only decent looking GM cars are coming from Australia. Domestic GM's are just crap inside and out, and they feel cheap when driving them. GM is very close to bankruptsy, they better reinvent themselves fast. But reinvention costs major money, something GM does not have, but does owe.

Don't count this one out yet, I predict:

It'll find more buyers than the entire Saab division.
It'll find more buyers than all of Hummer.
It'll outsell Suzukis entire lineup as well.

All of these sorry ass brands need to be eliminated.

GM is wasting it's time. There are not enough buyers out there to make this investment worth while. This product's only saving grace is it's V8, but with fuel prices as they are buyers will go else where. GM needs a Honda Ridgeline with better styling and performance (Honda needs real designers). Ditch the Mullette-mobile/ST.

I am still waiting for the wagon version with the V8...

Although if that is still not on the horizon by 2009/2010, I might get a G8 or ST.

Personal wants aside - GM needs to start offering a high-output 4-cylinder in their larger cars putting out 300+ horses. Great MPG and decent performance. They would sell...

even though my gut feeling is this truck won't find a lot of customers it could be worth the risk being that it costs very little fore GM to bring this car over here from austrailla....and why wouldn't they offer it with a v6? heck when are they gonna start using the turbocharged 4 from the solstice in larger vehicles?

With nothing comparable out there, I'm not sure how anyone can say that it fills a "niche market" since it's impossible to really determine how big the market is.

Sales of Trucks are down 40% so far this year. By all accounts gas prices will continue to climb and the truck market will shrink by a similar amount next year as well.

The market of displaced truck buyers is WELL OVER 1 MILLION PEOPLE. That's just how much the truck market has shrank. Now, some of those lost buyers, probably even most of them, bought trucks primarily for the image of owning a truck moreso than needing the utility of one.
But even if just 1 out of every 10 of them really needed (or placed a lot of value on) the occassional practicality of their truck, but didn't want the gas bill of one (or even an ever-growing stigma against them) something like this could be a huge success.

I haven't heard any sales projections on the ST, but seeing that GM is only targetting 50,000 foe the G8, they can't be projecting more than 20,000 for this ST. By the time it comes out late next year, that will be roughly 1 percent. Just a measly 1 percent of the lost truck sales in the past 2 years. So all they need to do is convince 1 out of every 100 would-be-but-cant-afford-the-gas truck buyer to look at this thing instead.

@@Payton Byrd
It's been a good truck! It's a little 4-banger with 105,000 on it and stills runs like there's no tomorrow. Now, driving 700 miles to WNY in it when you're 6'4", I wouldn't advise that.
This thing still has another year before it hits the showrooms. GM can change everything by then. Whatever they put in it, I hope it has some balls to keep up with the wife and the Mustang.

@moto-racer,

Specific horsepower (hp/L) is a useless way to measure engine performance. What about hp/cam? The G8 makes 361hp per only one camshaft, that's a fantastic number! But its just a meaningless as hp/L. Now hp/lb is a useful number and GM's aluminum small blocks do well here. Nissan's 3.7L gets 330hp because it revs to 7000rpm. Its higher strung and this will affect the engine's longevity. Its also fairly torqueless until it spins up. The G8 pulls hard all the way to 6000rpm

The L76 in the G8 pushes 361hp/380tq, uses 87-octane fuel and gets 24mpg highway in a huge sedan. Name another engine that can match that for the price. It also far more durable than the high strung DOHC high output V6 and V8 engines competitors use.

V6?
I thought the name G8 wood meen it had an 8 gcylinder engine in it.

Well the base model G8 sedan comes with a V6, so why not this? I don't think the number "8" has really any significance as to the power plant unlike Dodge's SRT-"4,6,8,10". I think especially with how gas prices are dropping the DI 3.6L V6 would be a good idea.

I think GM should stick to their guns, and show their true colors by belligerently refusing to understand what people want in a car (particularly under the economic realities of today) and only offer an extremly thirsty V8.

@HemiRoadRunner

Did you forget your meds this morning?

@Moto-racer13

Horsepower doesn't tell the whole story, my friend. Yes, there are V6 motors out there sporting over 300 HP (most notably the Nissan VQ 3.7L with 330 HP), but none of them have the torque that GM's 6.0L engine has. That torque is the difference between a car that pulls like a freight train from idle and one that pulls like a puppy until the RPMs build up.

@buzzgt

You drive a '98 S10? Wow, you must be some kind of masochist. I've never been in a more uncomfortable vehicle in my life than a '98 S10. I think that may be the only vehicle ever produced with a 90 degree fixed seat back angle for the driver.

361hp from a 6 litre V8 is pathetic. Alot of automakers are building V6 engines that are well into the 300hp range. GM needs to stop hiring engineers who just graduated from devry.

This is looking even better to me now. I know everyone is like "What a waste of time and money. Get a truck if you need a truck." Unfortunately, not all of us need a gas guzzler. My 98 S10 may be traded on one of these puppies, especially if they offer the V6. All I need is something to haul a few pieces of lumber and the occasional trip to the landfill.
