Because if you are offended by it like I am, sure you can put it down permantently but plan on taking a long weekend trip alone or wearing the same clothes the whole time because there is only enough trunk space for a toothbrush and shaving kit. Two reasons: For the "hardcore" autocrosser people who would just attempt to remove those things, and more importantly, to get in below the 20k price point. Which is pretty remarkable, all things considered. The Sky comes with all of those things standard, hence the higher base price.
