injunraiv, the sad thing is I see alot of new Tundras driving around, and when I ask people why they buy them they said reliabilty and fuel economy, then I have to remind them of all the problems the Tundra had and the fact that the Silverado with the 5.3 liter is more fuel efficient, and the 2009s are finally getting 6 speeds in the crew cab.

Hmmm, toyota is offering $3,000 off the Tundra right now, and $4,000 / 0% on the Sequoia. Neither of these get the fuel mileage of the Silverado/Tahoe, and neither offers the warranty. Who is in the scamming biz again?

What a worthless scheme to get people to buy these pointless overweight trucks. $6000 is nothing when the average owner will be spending half that much a month on gas, and will depreciate in value by another $3000 every month. Sounds like GM is in the scamming business.

I got you all beat. My kayak takes two granola bars to get me around the Potomac river basin. It fits perfectly in my Civic with the seats down and the bow just out the trunk :o

I see the need for large SUVs for some people; lots of kids, boat, etc. I hate seeing these soccer moms yakking on the cell phone, holding their $4 latte, and reaching to the backseat to slap their kids, all while driving a 6000lb vehicle that handles and responds nothing like their Honda Accord they grew up on. They are dangerous on the road, and have poor skills at driving these hulks. Maybe the cash incentives could be used for driving instruction for these women.

And I haven't seen noname post in a while. Hmmmmmm. Naptime?

I will say construction, landscaping, etc companies should be cheering at this news. General public however, probably couldn't care less because of the cost of fuel.

frylock350, I am talking blue water boats. They are between 25 and 70 feet and start with at least one big V8 and motor is not substitute for a rudder. Twin CATS will burn 10 gallons just to get out of no wake zone.
You can have fishing boat propelled by electric motor, but that was not subject of my post. BTW, even smallish 15 HP Mercury I/O (I looked at one when my Yanmar was coughing) burns about 2-3 gallong/hr. If it is hooked to my boat it will do 4-5 gph at best: weight and waves take its toll.

@xyunya,
My fishing boat gets much better fuel efficiency than my Suburban does. Mercury outboards aren't very thirsty. 10 gallons will last me over a month and that's going fishing every weekend.

Global, I would not worry about towing boats - boat sucks significantly more fuel (gas or diesel) then truck engine. I own sail boat and ALL motor boats in my marina have not seen water yet. Those guys were making fun of my speed 4-5 years ago when I first parked it there (it takes a day or two to get in sail boat where you can get in couple hours on twin screws) now they are forming lines who gonna go see the blue water with me when I am heading out.
Smaller one (towable ) a bit better and you can get gas on a gas station 15-20% less then on marina, but they are not gift from God: 5-8 gallons per hour (4-2 mpg).

Towing boats is out of question at this point.

I can understand people buying these if they need to do some heavy duty jobs like regularly towing boats. But the days of people buying a full SUV as the primary family car are over. Demand goes down, price goes down.

Tonto can bet all his net worth that this ain't near over ... guaranteed $170/barrel this year and $250 within three years. Gold breaks $1200 this year and $1700 with two and a half years. The U.S dollar hits at least .52 USDX within the same time frame. See 'NoNameDufus', this is worthy, quality posting that you can take to the bank ... not your worthless opinion which is monkey chatter ... it doesn't take a genius to figure out posers won't buy but those in need of work trucks or towing will scoop these up with such savings. But tell me again, "Dufus' ... you think the U.S economy is doing just fine? Fucking oaf.

'brassmonkey', be careful ... you're hurting the pussy's feelings when you provide comedy at his expense.

Hybrids are reasonably frugal. After all, they deliver 20/20 mpg in 4 wheel drive and you can pack 8 people and all their belongings. With incentive they do make sense, if you are willing to shell 40-45K. Then again you can buy Odyssey for 30K and spend 10K for 2000-2500 gallons of gas (40-50K miles).
