I agree with Richard! It should have already been in production. I would also settle for a V6, but that LS7 import killer is my kind of thing.
For all you Mustang haters!; Have you even driven one? The new ones are sweet (GT)! They ride great and thier faster than a trip to hell! (and Im a Camaro fan)

GM needs this car soon and i mean real soon, like last year. This car should be in production within a year. From what i have been reading, GM has already sent S.Lee(in charge of Exterior Design for the Camaro) to Australia, which could be a hint of what the near future will bring. He is supposedly going to be in Australia for a year, so i am really looking forward to see what develops. C A M A R O !!!!!!!! 2008 Camaro= 3450lbs or slightly less with a base 320HP 5.3L and a Z28 package with the LS2 at 410HP and a final model the ZL-1 with the LS7 motor rated at 490HP. I'll even settle for a base V-6 model

What better car to make than a Mustang? I would say a good one. The new Mustang is ugly if it isn't at least a GT, without the extra set of lights and good looking wheels it just doesn't look good at all.

I hope GM will bring back the Camaro though, and hopefully not mess it up.

The mustang is not butchered and it is not a "Mustang wannabe". It is called being retro, and what car to better make retro than the king of American car history?

I think JCWhit's point is that GM has a track record of releasing vehicles that were billed as "revolutionary" and generated quite a bit of buzz before falling flat on their faces. The Pontiac GTO doesn't fit in there quite as well because it's just a rebadged Monaro. It's a big deal to revive a nameplate. I'd hate to see the Camaro get rushed into production and be a disappointment. Ford learned from their Thunderbird fiasco and the S197 Mustang is a huge success. I hope GM takes note and learns from mistakes made during the GTO's run.

"See Pontiac, Aztek
See Pontiac, GTO
See Cadillac, Catera
See Buick, Reatta
See Cadillac, Allante"

What do any of these cars have to do with the first car GM will release in America on its new RWD volume platform supposedly to undertake many GM products including Impala, Buick sedan, Monte/Chevelle, GTO, Grand Prix/G8, Holden Monaro, and MORE. The 4th gen Camaro was supposed to be a failure, it used basically the same platform as the 3rd gen and was ignored until it died. If GM doesnt realize that their old ways wont work by now, they wont even be around in two years to produce a bad Camaro.

Hopefully GM will have this on the market sooner than later. Just look at what the Mustang is doing for Ford. They desperately need a performance product that unlike the Z06 doesn't cost a $100K

snip->

Does this mean that Mullets are going to make a comback?

When did the shorty longback go away?

I love how everyone is so sure that GM will screw this up. This thing will most likely come out in Model year 08 meaning availability next year, due to all the hype. Do you guys remember the Mustang concept? Ford butchered it yet everyone still loves that ugly Mustang wannabe. The Challenger supposedly will be V8 only so it wont be a threat. I just dont see how GM can screw this beauty up.

An enthusiast's "You should build it" does not translate into "I'm going to buy one."

GM ought to let us know when people are paypalling $5000 deposits.

The Challenger at NY apeared much more realistic than the Camaro. At the moment you'd have to be under 5'5" tall to fit under the Camaro's low slung roofline. And once those panel gaps are widened to typical GM production standards (20mm +/-100mm), the profile isn't going to look nearly as streamlined.

"He said the Camaro is both buildable and realistic"

And what, in 2010? This was a polititian's response that answers nothing.
