Funny how a lot of you are already complaining about how dated it will be and it hasn’t even been built yet! Who knows what will change by 2009. Personally I don’t care for it because it’s a retro but they did get one thing right… The wheels! A wheel that fills the wheel well with low pro rubber works every time. I can’t wait to see all the old times slap on some 14″ wheels and big ol bubble tires LOL!

Pushrod engines do rock! But, I think it’s unfair to assume that only imports have OHC engines. Ford runs ‘em, so does Mopar. I think it is cool that GM is keeping it “real”, tho. That took some balls.

I don’t care about the HP/Liter idea too much….that’s BS. But, HP/lbs do matter. OHV engines tend to be lighter (if made of same materials) and more compact.

Kudos to GM for pushing the envelope and going out of their way to make sure you can fit 24’s. It’s all about big displacement engines and big rims. You hippies enjoy your gay hybrids.

The 3.9 is NOT an evolution of the 3800. It makes 240hp in it’s current form but I would be surprised if they dont get another 10-20hp from the engine for the Camaro. Another reason this engine is being used is because it can be equipped with AFM to save gas. Also, two V6s are going to be offered and I bet the 2nd one will be a 275-300hp version of the 3.6 DOHC V6.

The idea that today’s pushrod V8 is somehow ‘low tech’ is not an accurate perception.
I also doubt that too many customers will opt for the maximum wheel size option.
In addition, why slam GM for the report? LLN decides what to publish and what not to publish. GM may only be answering questions the press/public asks of it.
This is a great looking car, and will sell well weather its reported every day from now till 2009 or not. IMHO.

By “overwrought”, do you mean well-tuned? Just because an engine wasn’t pulled out of a truck and makes most of its power at higher revs, doesn’t mean it’s overwrought.

i saw this car in person at an autoshow and i talked to some people accompainied to chevy and they said that the mirrors were most likely to change. i could see that cause the mirrors IMO were way too skinny and i couldnt picture myself changing lanes in that thing.

As long as the car will offer the LS2 under 30k, I would take it over the Mustang. And plus, the LS2 is better than any V6 you can throw at it. The fuel economy to power ratio cant be beat. I foresee many N/A upgrades done to this immediately.

im not sure if this car is going to handle like ****. cuz first off they raised the roof life, and they made the car less wide both off which make a car worse on a skid pad. but they also moved the front axle forward with out making the car longer which is a good thing.

If success for GM on the car(s) coming forward is measured by outpacing FoMoCo, then it’s gonna be some barren years for the domestic industry REAL soon.

Each one operates differently (FoMo, GM, DCX)…Of the three, GM recently is on a tear showing something that’s going to be produced (Solstice, Aura are best examples), but we see it on the show circuit for 3 years and when it finally arrives it’s old news and not current. Sky/Solstice is a fine car for 3+ years ago, but after ALL the hype it’s pretty cheesy. Same with Aura. Might have been more competitive if it went on sale 6 mos after it was first shown. Now, 2-3 years later it’s a fine car, but no match for the Accord or even Kia Optima.

Unfortunately, the Camaro is gonna be the same thing. It’ll be trotted out everywhere (more Woodward, NYC, Chicago, LA, Detroit, all NASCAR events, kid’s birthdays, 4th of July, Arbor Day, VE day, Bat Mitzvahs) for hype over the next three years.

oddglat, did you ever think they use a larger engine so they can get cheap power? A bigger engine will give you a whole lot more torque with a whole lot less work, keeping costs down. And I’m pretty sure that if GM wanted to give the V6 360hp, they would, but that would be a stupid decision because it would no longer be competitive with the Mustang V6. Why spend the extra money to make your car sell less? People who buy the V6 don’t give a **** about horsepower.

So with this change we may see better weight distribution and handling as a side effect?

With 20-inch wheels as standard I’d imagine a lot of speed freaks will want to switch to a smaller 18 or 17 inch size wheel to reduce rolling weight and stress on the suspension.

How many sportscars that AREN’T $100,000+ supercars with ultra lightweight forged rims use 20-inch wheels? I can’t think of any.

Muscle cars like rubber more than low profile.

Nissan’s new 3.7L direct injection V6 is going to pump out 360bhp I doubt this mullet mobile can do 2/3 of that

I like very much, sell it for 30000 euroes in europe and they will sell like hotcakes. seriously american car companies get a clue. we want american cars from u dont imitate euro cars or japanes cars. have your own style and just jack up the quality to levels that will put the rest to shame.

The price for the v6 version is infact the most important, the car doesnt stand a chance if the base model or their volume model is over priced. And yea its a pushrod motor, so what? GM’s 3800 and the small block chevy are two of the worlds more reliable motors, are their pushrod engines. I dont see why its a big deal.
