Honda, Toyota, etc. got Ford and GM to get into the game with decent products and improved quality to compete and stay alive. There is a reason Camry's and Accord's are everywhere and their owners are incredibly loyal. Korea has greatly improved their products, and Hyundai is getting hugely competitive. It is only natural the next wave is the Chinese products, and people who bash them are kidding themselves. They will help push the industry to compete, just like the Korean's and Japanese companies did before them. GM is smart to have have an eye towards the Chinese market, if they want to be the dominate car makers in the world once again. Toyota and Honda will gladly swallow up new markets. So if our products are designed and produced with a global influence-I can only say way to go! Name a company who gets all of their products out without delays or problems. For those who bash all American products, what happened to the engineers at Toyota and Honda when they launched the Tundra and Titan? Those trucks were launched with problems and just because they were trucks they don't get a free pass.

Way to go Buick. Exceptional product and fine execution to stop production to handle a quality issue.

p.s. I'm about to abandon this site for lack of objective comments. I concur - this is a very positive report for which GM should be applauded. Most of the posts here are entirely juvenile.

Are you mentally impaired sprockkets? This is not even based of the Opel Astra! They are on completely different platforms!

goggles? Why? This is not like the GM of the 80's and 90's. This time, they PRODUCED a few cars and realized quality issues were their so they stopped production to fix them. This is no where near the 90's when they would just deny everything and send out these cars with problems and blame the customer for poor care!

Lets just shut the f up about the Obama motors and the Government Motors crap! Do you not realize that they NEEDED a buyer after bankruptcy? That is why Fiat bought out Chrysler! I'm tired of the "BS" and i am tired of the haters! I hope EVERYONE reads this! Its getting old.

Lets just give GM positive reviews for treating us right by stopping production to fix this minor problem that is no use crying over!

teahead.--
you have a point. atleast they stopped the delivery of the vehicle. in the past gm would have just sent out the cars not caring if it they were falling apart.

i used to sell pontiacs some 15 years ago. the cars sometimes had to spend 3 to 5 days fixing them right off the truck, getting the cars prepped to be sold as a new car. they would have spark plugs missing, ac vents falling out, misfit panels, inside and out. they were junk cars, that would sometimes fall apart on test drives.

A few weeks delay don't sound like a minor quality issue. My guess is that some genius UAW workers had installed the steering wheels on the right side.

So easy to spot the haters on here. Nothing changes in their posts. Story to story. Never providing constructive information or even a substantiated opinion. Just childish beliefs that every new GM product will come apart when you turn the key. Buick has repeatedly performed at the top of the pack when it comes to quality yet some of the uninformed on here keep making comments as though it's 1985. Many of the comments show a total inability to read and understand the story. zoomzoomer, the story states that 400 units have been "shipped" not "sold." Big difference. I don't think there is going to be a problem with demand.

And for cheap giggles, several people have stated that for consistency all GM products should be recalled if "quality issues" are the citeria. Just cheap ggigles. I'm curious what the average age of posters is on here. Thirteen?

Thank you MHW. The guys like borat, 1115, raineman, etc. just love ignorance and feed off bad news that revolves around domestic automakers, or down to the point, GM. Me, i support all automakers now despite what the article is about. I used to bash every automaker beside GM and Ford and Chrysler. Everyone who isn't being reasonable needs to grow up!

Blah Blah Blah, the ignorance on this site amazes me daily. The horror to think that Buick is taking the time to make things right before they mass produce the LaCrosse. Buick has had an awesome track record for reliability for years. (one of the best in the industry) Would you guys have preferred that they swept it under the rug???

I am genuinely shocked, SHOCKED, I say.

Hey, at least GM acknowledged it. If the past was any indication, they would have just blamed the customer.

GM probably doesn't want to elaborate as to what is the culprit for the delay is so consumers won't be "looking" for that component to break when they start shipping the LaCrosse.

GM doesn't halt production for a minor issue, they would send the cars to the dealers and let them fix it. It has to be something serious.

What I find most interesting is that Buick's average buyer is older than the country's average life expectancy!

We have one of these at our dealership and I had the pleasure of getting to drive it around for a few hours, what a great car. The interior is worthy of a Caddy badge and the thing is soooooo quiet. Extremely well done car and I got a bunch of onlookers and questions on it. Like someone mentioned the issue sounds very minor and they're already taking care of it early on, well done.

what was i thinking. i actually thought that gm could pull this car off. on paper it seems to be a viable car. but, nope its going to be another gm product with issues.

wait until the new camero gets recalled for engine fires. the main wiring harness is 2 inches above the manifold, held together with cloth tape. i'm not kidding.. go take a look at the v6 camero and its mess of an engine bay.

Yea, stopped the Camaro the same way. Still sold out the Camaro and still people cannot get them. Seems to be working out OK.

The website compares the 2010 LaCrosse head-to-head with the 2009 Lexus ES 350. More from the review:
“What at first appeared to be a put-up-or-shut-up proposition for Buick has resulted in a thorough embarrassment for Lexus. The two entry-level luxury sedans are effectively tied in our ratings of performance and fuel, but every place else — evaluation scores, feature content and price — the 2010 Buick LaCrosse walks away from the 2009 Lexus ES 350 with a decisive 17-point victory.
Buick LaCrosse CXS as the new leader in its class.
                                                                                                        |
“At first we questioned GM's strategy, not only with the LaCrosse itself but also with the notion of
Buick as a genuine competitor for Lexus. But after this comparison, we have no doubt that the 2010 Buick LaCrosse is a game-changing, brand-defining automobile that will go far to both revitalize Buick and promote the new General Motors.”

Sad, I trust GM to build a more reliable car than most anyone. Not to say they build them out of good materials, but as far as not getting broke down and longevity - GM is one of the better ones.

Oh, and I'll also mention again how awesome the LaCrosse is. It's nice to see the Aurora's spirit alive and well at GM. Build a car straight out of greatness. I need to be in one for my final say, but the interior looks as though God has touched it himself. Okay, that's extreme - but it's my fav on the market for the money.

I think the quality issue was with a sebacious substance on the an ashtrays they found on the finished products. They traced the issue back to their fitting 4-lug wheels on 5-lug hubs.

See, they had a UAW monkey on the side with a drill press poking an additional hole in each rim, but his drill bit was too small, so then another guy was hammering the wheels onto the car when his sledgehammer broke he started smacking it with a pry bar, and the vibrations jiggled the rearview mirror loose, which fell onto the dash, spilling the brake-pedal guy's beer all over, and some of it dried up in the ashtray.

Silly Govt Motors.
