Last week’s Hummer dealer meeting has shed new light on GM’s possible sale of the brand. GM executives said the company was never in talks to sell Hummer to Tata motors, despite previous rumors. Today’s reports has several companies interested in the military-born off-road brand, although no names have been specified as of yet.

While Mark McNabb, GM’s vice president of the premium channel that includes Cadillac , Hummer and Saab , wasn’t directly quoted, dealers at the meeting paraphrased him, according to Automotive News. “There are parties we’re talking to,” one dealer quoted him as saying.

Mark LaNeve, GM North America vice president of vehicle sales, service and marketing, said the dealers he communicated with want Hummer review completed quickly. He also revealed GM is considering three courses of action, including an outright sale, a joint venture or a complete revamping of the brand. The first two options are likely to involve the several global companies that are currently showing interest in acquiring the brand, including at least one from China.

Dealers, meantime, feel GM should not have mentioned anything about a sale until it is confirmed, as they believe it hurts the brand’s image during the interim.
