General Motors was forced to stop production of its all-new 2011 heavy-duty trucks following the identification of an issue with a part, which the automaker says it will be replacing.
Leftlane spoke with Tom Wickham of GM who explained that during routine testing the engineers determined that a part found on a limited number of trucks which needed to be replaced with a superior part, and as a result of a temporary shortage of the replacement part a limited amount of production was halted this week.
Although GM failed to identify which part will be replaced, Wickham told Leftlane that the heavy-duty truck plant idled its first production shift yesterday, as well as two scheduled overtime shifts today. Wickham said that the overtime which was originally scheduled for this afternoon will be moved to next Friday instead.
Wickham also clarified that none of the trucks with the affected parts have been sold to consumers.
