General Motors is in a “rough patch,” but it is not headed toward bankruptcy, said GM chief executive Rick Wagoner in a letter to his 325,000 employees. He acknowledged that GM’s large losses in North America are unsustainable but insists the company is taking the necessary steps to regain profitability. Wagoner called GM’s balance sheet “robust” and pointed to the company’s $19 billion cash reserve.
