In an effort to clear out inventory of its Pontiac lineup, as well as a few other brands, General Motors says it will offer 0 percent financing for 72 months from today until July 6 on many of its in-stock 2009 and 2010 models. The 72-hour sale will include popular vehicles like the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, as well as the Pontiac G8.
GM says that most of the Pontiac lineup, including the G3, G5, G6 and Vibe, will qualify for the promotion, as will the Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon XL, Chevrolet Impala. Most other GM products appear to qualify for 60 months’ worth of 0 percent financing.
The automaker also claims that, once the Cash for Clunkers legislation is finalized, it believes it will offer twice as many new car replacements as any other manufacturer.

Since the tax payer is propping up GMAC the title should read “US Taxpayer offering 0% for 72 Months”. Ford was probably stupid to turn down taxpayer funds. They too could use government backed loans and offer below market interest rates.

What I fail to comprehend is why GM has 2010 models galore, when nobody bothered to buy 2009? And we are in the beginning of summer, not even in September. It had to be a reason why they are so much SCREWED UP in the head.

I would say the Vibe is by far the best deal out of all this, since there isn’t much incentive on them anyway, this is a pretty big deal on that model. The G8 always has alot of money in rebates, so it a wash in terms of benefit, same as the rest of these in the offer.
@fushsticks – GM has to buy the loan down from the lender (GMAC is not connected to them as they used to be) – the lender doesn’t offer this, it’s the manufacturer offering this instead of a rebate. Get your facts straight or STFU.

Which models of model year 2010 are out? To my understanding, the all new LaCrosse is just trickeling in and a few Vibes that will only be built through August. They will still be building 2009 models in August after their summer shutdown. How is this “2010 models galore”?

Does that mean they expect to have twice as many qualified vehicles as anyone else or rather the lots will still be filled with inventory nobody wanted in the first place?
Perhaps the correct answer is ‘C’, all of the above.

Johnny, I think their thinking is their are more rednecks that are chevy fans, then Toyota and Honda. Who has more gas guzzler clunkers then the rednecks? And rednecks dont want new fuel efficient B-class cars they want new trucks and SUVs that just barely qualify and Chevy is super strong in these.

Guys – comment all you want but get your facts straight. Chevy has better overall fuel economy than Toyota. The facts speak for themselves. A lot of biased foreign backers on this forum, but read the facts and realize everything you believe to be true about the foreign makes is not necessarily true.

Shaver – “Chevy is super strong in trucks and SUVs that just barely qualify”? Looks like your “environmentally friendly” Toyota is the super strong manufacturer in gas guzzling trucks and SUV’s.

Just checked out the cash-out offer on this. It’s 0%-72 or $1500 on a G8.
$1500, that all? I buy everything cash and going by history I thought 0%-72 would translate to $5 to 6k in rebate given that 0/48 in that price class came to like 4k off.
One could argue that I could just go for the payments, but screw that – I hate payments on anything (that’s why I’m a cash guy). Am not locking into payments on a damned car. I’m the type of buyer most car companies want I think, but whatever – it’s a GM anyway.

paying cash for a new car(only new, not used) is about the dumbest thing you could possibly do with money! If you hate it that much, open a bank account just to have automatic payments going to the car payment!

GM has outsold every manufacturer every month this year. Every manufacturer is offering discounts because the market is horrible right now. GM builds vehicles people want – why else would they out sell everyone every month?

What does that matter? Are you saying Toyota should file bankruptcy so they can be number 1? GM was number one for 70 some years exept for last year and now they are on track to be number 1 again. They build cars people want, regardless of what the foreign lovers say or what the government says. And they are more fuel efficient than Toyota.

armstealer,
some people just don’t understand. Sucks for them! I have been earning enough interest each month to 350 dollars of my passat leaving me to only have to pay the remainder of 14 bucks! Thats like getting a new passat for 14 bucks a month!! Obviously, my dad has contributed to this savings amount. You have to be brain dead to not understand that that is the smart move/way to do/go if it’s possible for you. The same thing can be done with vacations. Put in 15k and at the end of the year, you will have enough money to buy a round trip ticket to BVI for 3, enough money to stay 2 weeks while renting your own boat, and eating all the crabs you can stuff in your mouth!. It’s common sense!

and car dealers don’t want you because of your “cash”, they want you because a person who pays with cash actually has less leverage when something goes wrong. With a loan, your loan provider is also on your side if something were to happen. With cash, you are on your own. They can get away with a lot more and you will never even know!
