General Motors officially opened its Seoul Advanced Design Studio today in the South Korean city’s trendy Gangnam neighborhood. Set to complement GM’s other design studios by specializing in exterior and interior styling of the automaker’s global mini and small car designs, the studio employs about 30 designers and other workers.
Although the studio just now officially opened, its designers are already responsible for the Chevrolet Cruze (pictured), Spark and the upcoming Aveo.

“Our car designers get inspiration from life and Gangnam is a place where people worship design, style and fashion,†said Ed Welburn, GM Vice President of Global Design, in a statement released to the media. “Our Korean designers will sample perfection every day surrounded by some of the top brands and fashion houses in the world and this ideal location will nurture their creative souls.â€

Gangnam is world-renowned for its design-focused atmosphere and recently took over the title of World Design Capital from Turin, Italy.
