General Motors has opened a second factory in the fast-growing Indian market and the Detroit-based automaker says that it expects production to jump from 85,000 cars to 225,000 cars produced annually thanks to the new factory in Talegon, about two hours from Mumbai.
Last week, GM invested a further $200 million to open a powertrain plant adjacent to the Talegon assembly plant which the automaker says will produce up to 300,000 engines annually. The plant is expected to feed the Indian market as well as Russia and China.
