Whatever GMrules. GM cars are the trash. I know first hand as I just dumped my 2003 Malibu after the power steering failed for the 3rd time. I drive a Nissan now and couldn;t be happier.

Oh and my 2003 with 48 thousand miles was worth 5500 bucks on trade in. I paid around 25 thousand back in 2004. GM leads the pack in depreciation, that's about it.

Nothing wrong with taking a legendary nameplate and applying it to you lineup. GM stands for performance that no other trash from Japan, Germany, Korea, whatever can match. Sure, they'll try and try again, but in the end, they will still fail to match the superiority of General Motors.

deantj is right, the SS nameplate is just another example of overbadging bullshit by domestic auto companies, they can't make a decent car so they use a once revered label or nameplate and slap it on a pile of junk. The Mazdaspeed 3 DOES have every SS killed, the engineering effort that went into it, the value, the high thrills it gives, such a sporty driving experience, and it looks incredible to boot, kills them all

Gee, NOW they wise up. The Trailblazer SS is probably the only SS of the last few years to actually DESERVE that label.

S-60: Before you just made stupid arguments, or rather baseless claims backed by, well, nothing. Now, you've proven your extreme juvenility and idiocy, at least in the context of leftlanenews. I have come to expect the incessant participation of under-developed minds such as the one you seem to possess here on leftlanenews, but your previous comment truly places you in a much lower category. I see a vision of a 16-year old upper class slacker that drives a S60 his parents gave him. IS that you?

The "SS" designation might have been misused versus overused. I still like to checkout the SS models. Most "look" better than their same line counterparts. As others adverted to the Camaro is where the SS designation shines best, and is the most recognized.

I agree with Oldsmobile at least they have a V8 in them. At least it is a step in the right direction, and much better than a supercharged V6. That is an example of where they should call it the Impala Sport. If/when they ever make a RWD Impala again then the big V8 can be called an SS.

Not that I agree with the Bastardization of SS, but the current Monte and Impala SS models have 5.3 V8s making 300hp and better suspension.

The camaro SS was the last real SS in my mind. The current SS products Gm has are just the engines that should have been used in the first place or optional equipment. Equinox, Cobalt, Monte, etc are nothing special given the SS badge.

"Going forward, vehicles like the Malibu SS won't be worthy of the emblem. "That's one that probably shouldn't have gotten the SS label," Chevrolet Marketing Director Cheryl Catton said of the Malibu."

Gee, ya think?! I question the use of SS on the recent iterations of the Monte Carlo & Impala, too. I understand the Dale Earnhardt edition MC because of the NASCAR thing, but the SS is way off the mark. Those are definitely NOT performance vehicles.

Imagine that! I agree with Renton, whose S2000 is better than that crappy Solstice. GM DID make a mistake here in haphazardly tossing around the vaunted SS moniker. The RWD V8 standard for SSs makes sense.

I take exception, Piablo, to your inclusion of Mazdaspeed in the same sentence as the BMW "M" designation. The SS ideal we have established and the M series are several echelons above any factory "performance" machine from Mazda. Also, you mentioned the Equinox SS, which is not in fact an SS, thankfully.

On a separate note, one thing I find remarkable is how frank the GM brass are when speaking with the media of late.

How bout 5 S's?

Oh wait, that would be infringing on the trademarked 5-S in the Toyota Production System... Nevermind.

they should modify how they use it: one S is a Sport, two SS is a Super Sport, three SSS is a Super Sport Special, and the ultimate four SSSS is a Super Sport Special Something. There, problem solved.

They have abused it, and the funny side of me wishes they would abuse the 'Black Bertha' moniker! I just might buy a Black Bertha aveo, or a Black Bertha Malibu, and even a Black Bertha Vette. Collect them all!

The SS badge should be used in the same fashion BMW uses 'M'otorsport, or Mazda using Mazdaspeed. It's the one criticism I have had of Chevy for a long time. Deleting a roof rack does not make a vehicle a Super Sport. At least with the new Equinox SS they did beef up the suspension and provide an engine upgrade. With the new Camaro coming out, I will not be satisfied unless the SS model has at least a 500hp powerplant in it. IN fact, save that for the Z model if they still use it, and make some sort of stock drag model with 600hp+.

Um yeah, how was this not something that they could automaticaly figure out? SS means super Sport and in rescent years its been super shit, they need to set some standards and number one is stopping caling underpowerd...still front wheel drive cars, with body clad side moldings. They know how to do this but they have got to stop being cheap and make some real engines, and some designes that people whp would buy an altima, accord, or camry, would buy. There concept cars show they are capable, but the bean counters nickle and dime the productin cars in to bland medicority.

I think SS badge should only be on RWD cars with V8 power. When you see a car with SS on it, the first that comes to your mind should be.... that car is quick.

Old School.

Shit vs. Super Shit?
Sucks vs. Sucky Sucks?
Silly vs. So Silly?

Hasn't been a decent SS since the early 70's, 'cept maybe the 90's Black Bertha Impala.

Marketing folks have abused that moniker too long.
