Hopefully more than those that just keep it in their garage to only occasionally take spin around the block.

oh and yeah about the C7 appearance in Transformers, from what I heard, it looks like the people that supposedly reported don't know their cars. Some said it was going to be a ZR1, and then I heard it was going to be the C7. But Chevrolet does a pretty good job about hiding the looks of the Corvette compared to the Camaro...

lol davebo, yeah haha I never thought about that comparison. No I agree 100%. I like the looks of the Sky over the Solstice. Sky looks like a "mini vette". Problem is you can't put shit in those trunks. And I don't like rag-tops for security reasons. But now that they are offerring a coupe/targa variant, and at least the front fascia of the GXP is a little better looking than the base Solstice I figured that I can live with.

Yeah sure, the ZR1 is a great vehicle, but so is the GT-R.
Fuel efficient? Wasn't aware that the fuel efficiency of the ZR1 had been released. And from the unofficial sources I've heard it gets the same EPA combined as the GT-R which is heavier.
Powerful? Hell yeah it is, but the heavier and less powerful GT-R gets better lap time,s so again it really isn't an advantage, unless as previously stated, you are into drag racing.

Now I'm NOT saying the ZR1 is a bad car, it's IMO awesome actually, I really do prefer the looks of it over the GT-R. But if you're even slightly interested in going around a track the GT-R is just better value for your money.

If one ones to be really fast in a straight line, then yeah I guess the ZR1 is a pretty good buy. But the GT-R (V-Spec) is cheaper and posts better track times.

C7 in a Transformers sequel? I sure hope I'm not sick to death of the C7 by the time it hits showroom floors like everyone is with the Camaro. Also the Solstice seems like a really fun car, especially with the extra power in the GXP, but all my friends seem to agree, the front end profile looks like a dude's wang. I'd pay the extra money for the Saturn Sky just because of that.

1981blueZ28, I think you mean C6. C7 is the next gen Corvette which I'm hearing rumors that is going to actually make an appearance next year in the next Transformers movie (Transformers II: Revenge of the fallen) I hear the autobots name is Stinger. Also I think the C7 is supposed to come out in like 2012, which would make the C6 have a 7 year life cycle similiar to the C5 which had what 1997-2004?

Davebo: I hear you all the way buddy. Although A ZO6 would be hard to pass up unless you could only afford a regular corvette... As for me I'll be getting my targa experience in a Solstice Coupe GXP hopefully next year.

Amazing, but the new interior for the Vette is much better then in the past, and nothing wrong with a lightweight body, but some people will never like a Vette even if it matched Ferrari.

Oh wow, a cheap plastic sports car with a nasty interior but massive power and reasonable han, great! Wait, what's that you say, one hundred thousand, plus a dealer mark-up - surely some mistake?

What retard would buy a collectable car and expect a return in twenty years. It's a minimum 30 year waiting period if ONLY its shape and power delivery are still deemed acceptable. Otherwise it's at least a 50 year investment with a timeless design.

But who really cares,if someones retirement plan was a car, well, stupid is as stupid does.

Alright now there is a car GM fans and North Americans can be proud of. The Corvette has been having great success lately since the C7 in 2005. The Porsche 911 got beat by the C7, The Viper got beat by the Z06, and now whos next on Corvettes list.

Methinks GMs claims are to be taken with a grain of salt, as usual. And I agree that 0-150 and standing mile are much more suitable tests for a car of this caliber. Hope they are not all bought by 68-year-old collectors and stuffed into the back of garages.

I'm still anxious to see what the actual numbers are. I've read that GM used some pretty cool tech to put the power down. Including tweaking the magnetic-rheological shocks to transfer weight to the rearend during a launch.

I agree Z06ified. Cars that are designed to have a great time in one specific category or to have the best time on one specific track (like the ring) often fall short in other areas. Maybe this wouldn't beat the higher end GT-R in 0-60 without slicks, and might just come close on the ring, but try it at a couple of different tracks, or from a rolling start on a highway.

That being said, despite this being the first affordable exotic challenger, I'll be sticking to base corvettes with the Z51 suspension package instead of Z06s or ZR-1's. Why? Cause I'm a sucker for targa tops and D.C. traffic doesn't go well with 14mpg.

With regards to 0-60 times, the ZR-1 is obviously severely traction limited. You're not going to get much better than 3.4 0-60 without full race slicks. AWD will always have an advantage in 0-60 runs.

Run 0-100, or 0-150, or the 1/4 mile or full one mile - that's where you'll see the power of this car. Not 0-60. In a full one mile sprint, a GT-R would look like a tiny dot in the rear view mirror of the ZR-1.

Those who have driven high HP RWD vehicles (more than 400hp) know what I'm talking about.

It's still $20k cheaper than a Porsche 911 Turbo, and it makes the 911 look slow by comparison.

The GT-R isn't even in the same league. Look at the trap speed - 131 MPH in the 1/4 is brutally fast. The GT-R hits only 118 in the same distance.

Those who claim this car is too expensive don't have any facts to stand on.

Because people will plunk down the money for a Corvette sports car. It's practically its own brand.

But if Chevrolet wanted to market a 7-Series competitor, no one would buy it...just like no one bought the VW Phaeton.

It's marketing a brand identity.

If the cheapest and most expensive cars of GM come from one division, what the purpose of other 6 or 7 brands? It is insane question, but it would eliminate 80% of GM bureaucracy without sacrificing any features or quality!

yeah hateful83, if you also look at C&D under their 0-60time for the ZO6 is also 3.4 seconds.

Those #'s seem conservative to me as well. It'll do 60 in 3 flat for sure...

Those performance numbers seem a bit conservative, as far as I can tell. MotorTrend got a few ZO6's to hit 60 in 3.4, I see the ZR1 doing it around 3 flat. This car will embarass all the outrageously expensive exotics, much like the ZO6 does.

yeah 928dreamer is correct. I spoke about this in another post of how I read an article in Autoweek of someone buying a 90's ZR1 with 5k miles that the original owner paid 91k for, for only 29k. Then after putting it up for auction on Barrett Jackson and it only sold for 27k. Just like the GTR will suffer the same fate I predict.

Don't count on it johnnycanuck. People speculated about this the last time the ZR1 was introduced. People bought them and didn't drive them and then sold them for a huge loss 20 years later. It will take 50+ years for these cars to become collectable and then it will because there are so few left.

Comparable Ferraris and Lambos will always hold their value better. All the better for car enthusiasts. These cars are meant to be driven and this gives mere financial mortals the chance to pick up a world class used supercar in a few years.

for the price i mean. $30k+ difference is quite a bit for a car that's a few seconds faster around the ring. The gtr just seems like it would be a little more pracical for a daily driver. the gtr also gets better fuel economy (18 city). :)

to each their own.

Is it? What was the ZR1's Nurburgring time?

And I doubt it'll be much better with 3 of your friends riding in it, versus two in the Corvette.

inline6, I live about 2 minutes from the largest Corvette held Chevrolet dealership in Mi and I see them being unloaded right off the car haulers all the time. Then they sit outside in the elements all year round. Which is why I would order one.

Actually unlike the ZO6, and base Corvette that I will see on car haulers with Malibus, Aveo, Cobalts and Impalas I heard that the ZR1's are actually going to be shipped all by themselves.

I've never seen a brand-new Corvette on a flatbed or a car carrier. I'm pretty sure GM ships them in enclosed trailers.

That costs money. But it's included in the $103,300 price.

TomF,

Wow. Lodge your complaint at the door of all the other supercar manufacturers that build and sell cars with less performance, poorer fuel economy, and at higher prices than GM's doing with the ZR1.

Honestly. I think that if GM made the best-built, most reliable car on the market, made it go 250mph in 2.5 seconds, get 250mpg, slapped a 2.5 million mile warranty on it, and sold it for free, people would still be giving GM a hard time for the mistakes of 10-30 years ago.

I love the Corvette and the latest ZR1 by far is one of the most impressive Corvettes if not most capable domestic production performance car to go head to head with foreign supercars that are 6 times the price of it.

But I would NEVER pay this much for a Corvette. And a $10,000 interior package??? What's it lined with Italian leather???

Of course seeing that these are going to be sold in limited #'s and will be going for well over 105k but jeez... I'll take a ZO6 and get the level of performance that the ZR1 delivers for a fraction of the cost...

Wow...it's coming in more expensive than the XLR-V. That's a whole lot of money. But it's a whole lot of power and performance, too.

I just hope that the C7 has a better interior, better body hardware, and doens't look like just another facelift of the '84 model.

"There's simply no other vehicle in the world that does a better job of balancing performance, price and fuel economy."

Heh heh. It's got the price of a condo, the fuel economy of a Greyhound bus, and the performance of 200 lawnmowers.

Definitely the right car at the right time from GM.
