General Motors has already announced a plan to cut it salaried workforce by 14 percent, but it looks as though deeper cuts are on the way. The new cuts will likely be announced by the end of the month with as many as 10,000 jobs in jeopardy.
Sources close to the situation revealed to Bloomberg that GM is readying another round of salaried layoffs. The final decision on what positions will be axed won’t be made until the end of May, but GM has reportedly already asked managers to review their workforces.

“We expect it will affect all areas of the company,†Tom Wilkinson, a GM spokesman, told Bloomberg. “We don’t have any specifics to share at this time.â€

Although GM has yet to announce a how many jobs will be cut, those close to the situation have indicated the total could match the 10,000 salaried job cuts announced in February. About 3,400 of those cuts came from the automaker’s U.S. operations.

It remains possible that even more cuts could be just over the horizon. GM is desperately trying to cut costs in order to sidestep bankruptcy, with the company’s $6 billion first quarter loss not helping the situation.
