General Motors has announced the recall of nearly 5,000 model year 2011 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickups over faulty windshield wipers that could fail in cold weather conditions. The problem is centered around potentially loose nuts that are intended to secure the windshield wipers which were not properly secured during manufacturing.

Just two months ago, Honda recalled about 33,000 examples of its all-new Odyssey minivan due to windshield wipers that were breaking when turned on after freezing in place.

Like the Honda recall, this problem becomes prevalent when vehicles are experiencing heavy ice and or snow, which can cause the nut to loosen due to the added tension. In the GM trucks, fault has been placed on the nuts that secure the wiper arms to the vehicle, not the arms themselves.

The recall only applies to GM small trucks manufactured between late September and early November 2010.
