GM, Renault-Nissan talks to continue

General Motors, Renault, and Nissan today issued a joint statement on the progress of their alliance talks. The companies said a meeting was held today between Carlos Ghosn and Rick Wagoner regarding the ongoing discussions about a possible cooperating between the three parties.

Despite speculation that negotiations were near falling apart, the companies say they will continue to explore the potential opportunities of an industrial alliance. “Following today’s meeting, it has been confirmed that the teams will continue the studies through to the planned mid-October completion date,” the joint statement said. No further information was provided.

Rather see a Ford-Renault-Nissan tie up. Seems like a much better idea. GM will only drag the others down

@Stuart, On which planet? GM is not doing great, but it is doing OK. On the other hand, Ford cannot get out of its own way. In the great tradition of the blind hog that finds the acorn, you are right about one thing. Ford has a preexisting relationship with Nissan. The Nissan Quest/Mercury Villlager minivan was developed and sold by the two companies for many years.

The new Corvette will look like a Nissan Versa…

Anyways, I agree. I would rather see ford in some sort of alliance with somebody thats doing better. Ford needs help getting rid of their UAW force and making better cars, so Nissa-Renault-Ford would be a much better decision that GM-Nissan-Renault.

Richard seems you the one on a different planet. Just look at GM’s credit rating below JUNK STATUS. GM has a load of brand which just overlap each other just competing against each other.

Also don’t forget the previous relationship which don’t even exist anymore e.g. Fiat, Suzuki and Subaru to start with. GM doesn’t need to merge it needs to downsize by killing a few brands starting with Buick pontiac and even Saturn.

Dump Pontiac because all they have is cobalt look alikes and worse saturn auras. If they got rid of pontiac then they wouldnt have to invest money in it.

Maybe this has to do with Nissan’s ditching its heavy duty truck. If there’s an alliance then Nissan might not bother making its own but just use GM’s.
