"So Toyota spreading it out through 2 divisions is ok and makes a difference?"

WHAT????????????????????? You're comparing Hummer to Toyota and Lexus for Fuel consumption? Or are you comparing Scion here...

I never said anything about Toyota dominating hybrid sales btw... But having 4 products that I can purchase on the lot TODAY is something that I cannot do at a GM dealer. So ya Toyota is ahead here.

"The Tundra and Seqouia were released in something like 2001 btw so a very weak argument there kid." Listen little boy, doesn't change the sales figures, can't you figure that one out? LOOK THEM UP. Look at the truck sales for Januray 2006 for Toyota.

"2006 we saw the release of a Camry, inluding hybrid, the Yaris twins, a new RAV4, lexus ES and IS." Ok GM, Solstice, Sky (don't say they are the same, because so is the Camry and the ES),Lucerne, G6 convertible, Impala & DTS. Aura and Vue Greenline (hybrid) this summer.

Thomas Friedman reminds me of a lot professors I had in school who obviously couldn't cut it in the real world but had "all the answers" to all the world's problems, it says a lot about the new york times that they have this nag as one of their writers - It is sort of a nagging newspaper.

"Growth from pickups and SUV’s? Hmmmm, one TUndra? Check, One Sequoia? Check, on GX470? Check, 4Runner, Check, and the Land cruiser that manages to sell what 10k a year?"

Toyota (including Lexus) truck sales for January 2006 72,008. FACT look it up. Whats the gas mileage on Toyota suv's? Total January 2006 sales of Lexus, Toyota and Scion (car and truck) was 160,625. So that means nearly 45% of Toyota sales are trucks. Seems like Toyota is relying on sales of trucks too doesn't it?

Hybrid sales are a small percentage of the total market.
"Hybrids represented 1.2 percent of the total vehicles sold in 2005."

And if Toyota didn't make strides to provide the consumer with a line of SUV's you GM loving goons would argue that Toyota doesn;t have the capability of building an SUV like General Motors can.

"Damned if you do damned if you don't" according to the GM fanboi's...

Yes they were also bumped for early production because Bob decided they were the priority around here. You said it yourself, GM has 3 new crossovers coming. What's the gas mileage on those puppies?

"Toyota has only been experiencing significant sales gains with hybrids since fuel prices shot up last year. Prior to that, most of their growth was coming from pickups and SUvs, Most of the expansion in Toyota lineup in the last 10 years or so has been in trucks, not cars."

I can count (10) new GMT900 SUV's, two new Fullsize pickup truck LINES (light, medium, heavy) and a whole brand DEVOTED to consuming as much gas as possible (HUmmer). Now we have (3) new Crossovers to join a lineup of (5) different clones of the Trailblazer, and a Caddy Griswald family truckster (SRX). Not even close, your argument is cowshit.

People so determined to criticize GM HAVE the facts in hand, people who choose to defend GM manage to twist the truth into their own percieved notion that GM can do no wrong... Guess what, making Toyota a scapegoat for your little argument is getting you nowhere.

The GM SUVs had to be replaced because they were 7 years old. I laugh when people make stupid statements about GM putting all their eggs in one basket. How is that the case when the Impala and Cobalt are selling well? The Aura and Saturn Greenline are also coming out as well as three crossover SUVs including the Enclave? How the hell does that translate to GM counting on GMT900s to save their ass? People are so determined to criticize GM that they will ignore the facts to do so. Toyota has only been experiencing significant sales gains with hybrids since fuel prices shot up last year. Prior to that, most of their growth was coming from pickups and SUvs, Most of the expansion in Toyota lineup in the last 10 years or so has been in trucks, not cars. Toyotas first Prius was a non factor and the fuel efficient Echo was a flop.

Difference is GM is relying on their fleet of gas guzzlers to save their ass. Toyota is posting gains with Two hybrid SUV's, a new line of Camry's a pair of Yaris's and a new RAV4.

Poor comparison...

"The only thing the H2 and H3 have going for them are their approach and departure angles which are actually very good. Nothing else on those vehicles is any good off road."

Locking rear differential is useless offroad?

You simply cannot attack GM for poor mpg and not attack Toyota for poor mpg. Toyota fleet mpg has steadily declined for the past 20 years. GM hybrids (bus) save more fuel that all of Toyota hybrids. How about a 520hp factory suv (Cayenne Turbo S). How about the low mpg of Porsche, Ferrari, Land Rover, Lamborghini, Jaguar, etc....

"If you do post again, you ignore the part where you were proven wrong and just take a swipe at me"

swipe: YOU ARE A MORON!!!

first, I started out by saying: "please correct me if I am wrong..."

after your link, I replied: "I stated in my post that I was unsure if it represented the gmt-900’s, thank you for clearing that up for me and I stand corrected."

how that is proving me wrong, or me ignoring it, is beyond me.

If you want to try to accuse me of something, try to do so in a thread in which I do exactly the opposite of what you accuse.

Ahk-Med, splitting hairs is rationalizing when it's okay to drive a guzzler and when it is not. We all have our excuses.... Like Al Gore burning 7 million gallons of jet fuel to attend a global warming event.

And you are right about one thing...we are arguing with you for the sake of argument because you get so riled up. ;-)

You rarely support your arguments. You shoot your mouth off, then I get out the links to prove you wrong and you cut and run never to post in the article again. If you do post again, you ignore the part where you were proven wrong and just take a swipe at me.

Ahk-Med, there is a difference. You have over simplified your view on this. There is no incentive on the vehicle. There is a rebate on gas. How much gas the person uses will determine how much they actually realize in savings. If there was no difference, you yourself would not have a preference, as you state, over one or the other.

By the way Ahk-Med, I am still waiting for a big lib to preach about global warming...I know you're the one to do it!

I do not believe that GM is immune to criticism, nor did I ever say they were. I simply like to point and laugh at the "you're killing the trees and no blood for oil!" crowd.

Present a rational criticism of the corporation, and I will not point and laugh.

I stated in my post that I was unsure if it represented the gmt-900's, thank you for clearing that up for me and I stand corrected.

How was any part of my post ignorant? This is NOT a nation-wide rebate. This is NOT a rebate, it is a subsidy (I know... they are close in deffinition.)

Mike,

You will bend over backwards and display your ignorance you defend GM. Do you believe they are immue to criticism? Sematics don't matter here, the end result is the same. You buy the vehicle and get a "discount" of some sort, It's all MARKETING. Fuel subsidy, rebate, employee discount.. there is really no difference in the end.

http://fuelprotection.com/gmpromo/fuelcntrl.promo?brandId=oo&zip=92618&pr=fp&lang=en

1. VEHICLE ELIGIBILITY GUIDELINES:

To be eligible to participate in the GM Fuel Price Protection Program, you must take retail delivery of an eligible 2006 or 2007 model year new vehicle between May 25, 2006 and July 5, 2006.

For the California GM Fuel Price Protection Program, the eligible vehicles are:
Chevrolet: Tahoe, Suburban (1/2 Ton models only), Impala, Monte Carlo
GMC: Yukon, Yukon XL (1/2 Ton models only)
Cadillac: SRX
Pontiac: Grand Prix
Buick: Lucerne
HUMMER: H2, H3

Hmm, lets see. 2007 Tahoe and Suburban represented.

GM's calcualtor says I'd save $2,000 on gas if I drive 20k a year in my brand new '07 Tahoe. I'd rather have it as a rebate off the top.

Ahk-Med:

NATIONAL rebates... semantics matter. there are only a few areas being offered that.

Besides, that is a fuel subsidy, not a vehicle rebate.

please correct me if I am wrong, but I thought that was only offored for the remaining '05's and '06's, not the GMT-900 '07 model?

He also 2007 full-size SUVs have been “selling very well, without any national rebates.

What about the $1.99 gas? Is that how you give “rebates” without giving rebates? I’m guessing we’ll have even more burning SUVs when that promotion ends…

LMAO Mike! I was wondering the same thing. I will have to check back later.

Guys like Friedman are completely governed by their emotions, no logic. If they had any logical train of thought, then they would lump Ferraris, Vipers, Porsche Cayennes, Conversion Vans, and all the other vehicles of similarity into his arguments. But the Hummer has snob appeal. People who love to show off buy Hummers. And THAT is what people like Friedman despise about the Hummer.

Now please, I want to see someone work global warming into this discussion.

Oh man loyal off-road following that is rich. The only thing the H2 and H3 have going for them are their approach and departure angles which are actually very good. Nothing else on those vehicles is any good off road.
