A new, smaller Cadillac is one step closer to reaching fruition. General Motors has restarted production at its Grand River Assembly Plant in Lansing, Michigan, after closing the facility for six weeks to begin preparations to build a new, smaller Cadillac.
Cadillac told the Lansing State Journal that it will produce 60 CTS models today before ramping production back up to 290 cars daily. Cadillac builds all three configurations of the CTS in Lansing. The plant had been closed for an extended summer break to retool for an additional Cadillac model.
Tentatively called ATS, the new rear-wheel-drive Cadillac is expected to debut in November at the Los Angeles Auto Show before it goes on sale early next year as a 2013 model. The ATS will complement the CTS, with which it will share styling cues, some powertrains and an assembly plant.
