GM revamps sales, service and marketing efforts

04/16/2008, 2:03 PM

By Drew Johnson

General Motors has decided to move forward with a new sales, service and marketing strategy that will see each of its four channels — Chevrolet, Saturn, Buick-Pontiac-GMC and Cadillac-Hummer-Saab — headed by a single executive.

According to Automotive News, the following changes will become effective June 1st:

  • Chevrolet general manager Ed Peper will become North America vice president of the Chevrolet channel
  • Susan Docherty, GM’s current manager of the western region, will become North America vice president of GM’s Buick-Pontiac-GMC channel
  • Mark McNabb, who left Nissan last month, will become North America vice president of GM’s premium channel –Cadillac-Hummer-Saab
  • Jill Lajdziak will continue as Saturn general manager, but will gain sales responsibility

All will report to GM sales, service and marketing head, Mark LaNeve

The changes are intended to streamline GM’s sales, service and marketing efforts. For example, instead of the Chevrolet field team reporting to a region manager who in turn reports to someone else, the new system will see the Chevy field team reporting directly to Peper.

The move will also help dealers to better communicate with channel heads and customer feedback will also have an easier path to GM execs.

Mark LaNeve sure does have a lot of weight on his shoulders. Every time I turn around he’s getting more responsibility.

Here we go again, another “strategy”. These guys are STILL trying to get on a train that left the station ages ago. So they’re focusing on sales, service and marketing. What does that mean? Sales: try to sell more. Service: fix those crappy cars faster. Marketing: more glitzy ad campaigns. Where’s the focus on things like quality, design and innovation? That requires more money and brainpower and GM doesn’t have an abundance of either right now. Solution? Slap another bandage on their hemorrhaging business module and hope it’s enough to keep them clunking along.

Well I would like to be the first to congratulate 1115 on his new achievement, but I also want to be the first to express concern for him. First he gets promoting to a new job, and then THIS:

I am afraid with all this excitement we might get a heart attack.

Do I have to post all the news here before you guys actually post it???

I bet you are excited but you are about to be unexcited bc I already wrote your response
Commo,
See I told you this is the most heinous recall in car history ! Honda knew that water could possibly leak and that could lead to possible corrosion that could lead to a possible engine fire Even though it hasn’t happened and is likely never to happen they recalled the car bc Honda is the devil
So being that water could possibly enter the motor and possibly corrode and possibly lead to an engine fire this means the Malibu is equal to the Accord ! The new Malibu (that comes from GM known for 20 years of crap that years 1982-2002 bitch then 2002 -2008) that has been on the market for 6 months and driven by car magazine for 1 day is a reliable car bc it lasted 3 months (which is longer than most GMs) therefore people should consider GM over Honda bc of the water could possibly enter the motor and possibly corrode and possibly lead to an engine fire on one year of Honda Accords even though it hasn’t happened like this GM fire http://money.cnn.com/2002/04/03/pf/autos/recall_gm/index.htm

I feel not by any book values or any factual data but by my pity for GM that they should be considered Right jack jim

My Honda blew up after 3 miles and I bought a Pinto and it lasted 800 000 miles without an oil change Hondas and Toyotas are jap crap and even thought they have better resale reliability and GM Ford and Chrysler and the domestics cant come up with any contenders for these cars the American cars are better
Trust me Im a Janitor Ra rah

“Oh man I cannot be stopped” hahahahahahaha you are SO fukken pathetic! Do you have any idea how flawed your argument is? With all the current recalls being issued about 5 year old cars (03 Accord) that you CLAIM are reliable vehicles? That these cars “have a PROVEN track record?” My ass.

Some stupid petition, which for all I know you yourself could have posted there, that you gave a link to from some WEEK OLD thread on LLN proves nothing. And here you sit basking in your glory for “defeating me”. What is this? Well what it isn’t is Dungeons and Dragons or whatever you waste your life away on so stop with the “I have defeated you!!” crap. That petition, or any other example of a GM recall, does not hurt my argument at all because my argument is that for about a decade, GM has had few problems that happen only once in a while. Moreover, recently (past 3 years) they have had almost no recalls. I acknowledgeable that GM has had problems in the past (NOT 20 years of them) but now they are at the top of their game. At the same time, Toyonda are both doing worse than EVER. Recalls, poorly designed cars, increasing fleet sales, and more. That is why the essence of my argument here is that domestics (especially GM) are good enough to be considered because as of right now (and since 2005 or so) they have been on par with Toyonda. Less recalls, better styled cars, catching up in resale, surpassed in design…..

When I got my CTS I shopped a 3 series, a Lexus IS, and an Audi A4 (C-Class was not really out yet and I don’t consider Acura to be a true luxury brand, just imported European Hondas). I didn’t look at Infiniti either because I don’t like my dealer. Either way, I shopped them all and decided on several factors. To further support my argument, more and more people are going to GM showrooms because they recognize the fact that GM is now competitive with imports. Please respond to this post that you ignored:

more useless bull**** is all that your last post said Commo .You were quiet as hell and now a possible windshield wiper recall got your mouth open again Huh More crap about you getting excited about me “ignoring” your damning evidence. Why don’t you actually respond to my response that I posted a few comments above
FOr all I know you could have typed that The evidence doesnt lie but you do I have quotes from you. That link proves nothing except you said that GM made crap for 20 years 1982-2002 then my link in the thread proves that 2002-2008 GM is still having recall after recall Not just any recalls recalls where accidents happened and fires etc But I guess bc the facts are in a week old thread they are old Thats similar to your argument that my 2002 gm recalls posts were old and then I showed you new ones
You are ignorant and stubborn but you are not right and the fact in that thread week old or not prove it and proves my point
If i wasnt right you wouldnt have ducked for a week or in your case a weak

GM needs new slate of management, not to reshuffle old chairs around headquarters.
