General Motors revealed much of its future lineup today at a press event in Detroit, but little in the way of images have emerged from the meetings. However, GM has since released three teaser videos of two eco-friendly vehicles that could eventually make it into the automaker’s lineup.
Designed with green motoring in mind, the two concept vehicles are called the Bare Necessities Truck and the Bare Necessities Car. As the names imply, the two concept vehicles go back to the basics with the intent of making the most efficient vehicles possible.
Designed under the GMC brand, the Bare Necessities Truck is intended to give those that truly need a truck – whether for recreation or work – a green alternative. The truck is more compact that GM’s current pickup offerings and promise to return an impressive 40 mpg. Everything about the truck was designed with efficiency in mind, including its unique reversible bulkhead. Depending on needs, the truck can offer seating rear-seat room or can be transformed to offer a larger bed.
Despite its smaller size, the Bare Necessities Truck is capable of hauling 1,500 pounds in its bed.
The Bare Necessities Car was penned under the Chevrolet brand and was designed to be the “car with the lowest cost per mile of any four-seater on the roadâ€. The BNC gives up size in the name of efficiency, but doesn’t skimp on quality. GM used the BNC project to show that a small car doesn’t necessarily mean a dull interior with cheap materials. No mileage estimates were given for the small car.
It remains to be seen if any of the elements of the Bare Necessities vehicles will make production, but we expect to see some of the features on the road in the coming years.
