Though we won’t be at General Motors’ annual product preview until tomorrow, a handful of social media gurus blogging from Michigan have given up the goods on a few of the vehicles we expect to see. A new, smaller, rear-wheel drive Cadillac concept called the ATS proves the existence of the much-rumored Alpha platform, while the CTS-V will likely spawn wagon and coupe variants.
Though few details can be confirmed, bloggers in attendance have said that GM showed a small sedan concept called the ATS. Set to fight the BMW 3-Series , the ATS would obviously be smaller than the existing CTS. A production version is expected, as is a production CTS-V wagon based on the soon-to-be-released CTS Sportwagon.
Slotting in above the CTS will be the XTS. Set to replace both the STS and the DTS, the XTS will be based on the same platform as the all-new Buick LaCrosse and will offer all-wheel-drive as an option.
A new Buick sedan, positioned below the LaCrosse, was also on display, as was the new small Buick crossover based heavily on the soon-to-be-defunct Saturn Vue. The new sedan could possibly be the rear-wheel-drive model rumored previously.
GM also showed bloggers the 2012 Malibu, which should be in dealers about two years from today.
Unfortunately, as GM does not allow photography at events like this, details are sparse and hard to confirm. We’ll update you with more as we learn it.
We’ll hopefully have more concrete details tomorrow when our First Drive Editor, Mark Elias, is on site at GM’s proving grounds. Tomorrow morning, GM CEO Fritz Henderson is expected to announce an all-new model – likely the Aveo replacement to be built in Michigan.
