After reviewing more than 800 appeals, General Motors has decided to reverse its decision to shutter 60 dealerships formerly earmarked for closure. Just as General Motors hasn’t announced the names of those dealers slated to close in 17 month, GM failed to release the names of the dealers that will be saved from the chopping block.
GM decided to reverse its decision on the 60 stores after receiving new information from the dealers. The 60 dealers were able to provide GM with evidence that the financial figures and performance data previously used to decide the dealers’ fate were inaccurate, according to The Detroit News.

The news of the reversals comes just days after Larry Summers, the White House’s chief economic adviser, spoke out in favor of GM’s dealer closings. Summers says GM needs to be “run commercially, rather than politically”, but some in Washington want to see GM reverse its decision on more than 1,100 dealer closings. In fact, a bill that would block GM from shedding any dealers has already gained the support of more than 100 House representatives.

GM decided to reverse its decision to close about 30 dealers earlier this month.
