Oldraven, the British did not win the War of 1812 either, too busy in Europe. Detroit was not a state, D.C is a city, not a state, Alabama was not a state, maybe you should look up of what was a state and a territory and such for the USA during 1812.

Well, nonamedenton1, I'm not acting like anyone but myself. I'm old enough that I don't go looking for role models, much less in the article comment section of LLN.

So, No part of the Eastern Seaboard or the border with Canada was a 'State' either, I take it? Detroit? Chesapeake Bay? D.C.? The White House in flames? Alabama? Good luck with the teaching job. It's well known that the War of 1812 is one that the US pretends never existed, because it's one they didn't win.

i agree completely with the clean turbodiesel powertrain possibility, this and even possibly a turbocharged direct-injection, on much lower displacement engines such as ford's "EcoBoost" approach would be a possibility, or a start

FACTS, read them. Dummies like you can't grasp the concepts I present because in your world all is well ... your REAL purchasing power has plummetted because your dollar has fallen in value like a rock ... peasant, live with it.

It's obvious, evolution will keep you around ... procreating with other barrel-bottom scrapings ... good for you.

'Dufus', ALL the investment banks have the potential to be gone in three years ... I post FACT ... Lehman is next. And the only reason things seem calm and under control is because your government is using a 2% rate to falsely lull you fools into thinking all is well .... go read some info on real inflation rates ... go read how your 2% was much higher only months ago ... hmmmmmmmm, wonder why the gov't had to hammer rates so low AGAIN? But you're too stupid to understand anything. You're an idiot. I'll remind you in the coming months how stupid you really are ... something big is coming, I guarantee it, and you'll get addressed here. Kill yourself, moron.

I do not make up anything. That company is gone because that is the nature of capitalism, if a company can not survive in the market, it diappears. I know military history oldraven I teach it, and by the way, stop acting like Impulsive, he is not a good role model. Pearl Harbor was American territory, but was not a state so that is iffy ground. The revolution the USA was not a country so that arguement is gone, and the shot about New Orleans is false since that was not a state and was still being absorbed into the country. The economic downturn has slowed and it is only fear mongers and idiots like Impulsive who think it will continue. Learning and adapting can never work as a precaution, since humans learn from experience.

Learning and Adapting serves us better when it is a precaution, not a reaction. No need to fall in a hole to learn to walk around them.

'oldraven', yes, 'NoNameDufus' is the king of making up shit.

'Dufus', because your government WASN'T involved, BearStearns is GONE! Bankrupt and bought at pennies on the dollar. Tell investors who lost billions that things weren't screwed up. And now watch Lehman go under and tell everyone things weren't screwed up. The downturn has NOT slowed and will not slow until the USDX hits at least .52 USDX, idiot. Reading whatever you read makes you look like a jackass. Good work, jackass.

The H2 is a Tahoe, not a Trailblazer, but no better for it. Hyundai and Kia wouldn't know what reliability was if it hit them in the face. Seriously, don't mistake facts (JD Power VDS) for the opinion of some car mag journalist who says 'Watch out America, Hyundai's quality is rising fast'. The truth is there to be learned, if you'd just look for it.

As for America (I assume you mean the United States of America) never being attacked on home soil. READ A FUCKING BOOK! New York (yeah, that's debatable), Pearl Harbour, the entire The American Revolutionary War, the entire War of 1812, which ended in New Orleans!

There are too many people making shit up as they go here.

Tata, Mahindra, whatever company would be stupid to buy Hummer. All they are getting is a name. Hummer doesn't have its own engines/platforms etc. I don't think GM is going to sell the GMT platform copyright either. They'll need to design a vehicle from scratch to replace the GM platforms.

Actually America always survives economic downturns because American business always learns and adapts, not to mention since the government is more hands off, they can not screw it up. The downturn has slowed, I know because I read the news, unlike you.

You are fucking dead weight ... your country is in dire straights because of idiots like you. Paying attention to anything means nothing, loser. Your illiteracy is killing you. Please explain what it means when a Californian town claims bankruptcy. Please explain what it means when Lehman Brothers is, for all intents and purposes, bankrupt. Please explain what it means when house prices are STILL falling, eroding any false-wealth comfort and turning people to foreclosure. Please explain what it means when the USDX fell over half a cent late last week on the jobs number of some 60k to 70k jobs lost. Please explain what it means when dozens of once-proud retail stores are bankrupt and closing down.

You think the downturn has slowed? Dear Lord, you talk out of your ass for the sake of arguing and look ever-more stupid every time you post anything.

Seriously, kill yourself. I don't know why I bother dealing with a piece of shit like you. Kill yourself, moron.

'NoNameDufus', nobody understands you because you're an illiterate fool, plain and simple, dickwad.

And the dollar is not stabilizing monkey brain ... a temporary rise from .70 USDX to .73 is nothing but a short covering rally ... the dollar is doomed and will continue to plummet.

You really are dumber than a donkey, shit-for-brains ... why do you bother posting anything?

A4- Diesel engines are not going to get GM into the spotlight for these reasons...

-Most Americans perceive diesels as dirty. Personally, I see diesels as dirty simply because there are no real smaller offerings aside from Volkswagen which until have sold alright, and because of tight restrictions all diesel vehicles are large, larger than what I need, larger than what a general public needs. The Big Three had their chance with diesels in the 70's and 80's, but they created a nightmare with horrible, dirty diesel engines that were noisy, inefficient and downright dirty with little investment. Also because of this memory, I think people will associate diesel engines with large passenger cars with diesels from the 80's, or large trucks.
-GM already has the Volt for that. The Volt I feel will do a better job presenting that image.
-All of the planned engines are only for full size trucks, and the possibility of sedans is still open.
-Restrictions on diesel emissions are so horribly stringent, just making it to the United States with a diesel option is something to brag about. Selling them is a different issue...

Aside from that, I think that if anybody was to come out with diesel options, it should be Saturn. Their engine bays and transmissions are already well fit for such an engine from their European counterparts, their going for that "European image", and have a large enough lineup to really make a difference.

dalbaht- GM and Ford are not slowly dying companies. Chrysler has been in this before, and while I don't think this will be the last time they show no real signs of change.

Ford has just broken over even. They have captured a huge share of the European market, Chinese market and South American market, and continue to dominate in those areas.

Kia and Hyundai have yet to come close to the perceived, and real life quality of the Big Three.

Owning Hummer doesn't result in them owning Humvee. That's your own perception.

What vehicles and technology are you talking about that hits 40+ miles per gallon from Tata?

Why do you think it's funny that America can't compete? We're still one of the number one suppliers of technology, our scientific community is one of the most advanced in the world, we are one of the most diverse nations you'll ever find, we play a leading role in manufacturing, specifically machinery, guns and ammunition, metals, precious metals, etc.. We have one of the worlds best economies, with some of the lowest taxes. We have a high age expectancy, and have never been attacked on our own lands... If you'd like to argue about others competing, then feel free to do so. India has a huge workforce, but it's not being used to it's full potential. I'm not a real expert on this sort of stuff, but I can tell you right now, I'm proud to be American and happy you have so much pride in your country.

If Ford was dying, then explain why even though their American market share is shrinking, their overseas operations were profitable, same goes for Chrysler.

GM, Ford, are Chrysler are slowly dying companies. Currently, they build obviously inferior products and foreign manufacturers have already met and in most cases surpassed the Americans in QUALITY AND WORKMANSHIP (Kia, Hyundai). If you think its funny that an Indian company like Tata or Mahindra could possibly own an American icon like the Hummer and Humvee, you are in for a rude awakening. We all know Tata now owns ICONS already like Jaguar and Land Rover. We already know they have light truck clean diesel powertrains capable of hitting 40-50+ avg mpg. These figures trounce any truck hybrid systems currently from the big three. Over the next 10-15 yrs or so we will see the Big Three slowly dwindle into core companies. AMERICA CAN NO LONGER COMPETE in manufacturing and that is the really funny/sad thing here. Hopefully this is a wake up call though I somehow doubt it.

OK
HERE IS WHAT YOU DO GM, listen up and listen good:
make the entire hummer line diesel.
and no, it is not an engine "option", this has to be a dreastic alteration, perhaps making each model diesel only, with gas motors only being available upon special order, or maybe only 10% of the fleet. You promote the hell out of "going green" through diesel technology, and you show that an H3 can get better mileage than a comparably equipped Pilot or 4Runner, and tout how while it is so efficient, its tow capacity is better than anything in the segment. Make hummer a DIESEL POWERED brand. Yes, i understand that gas engines are generally the better choice for off-roading, but the H1 used the 6.6l Duramax and got by just fine. Diesels need to pave the future for Hummer. You cant give up on a brand that has so much hidden potential to go from being the worst representative of "green" to perhaps one of the best. Make an entire brand dedicated to diesel efficiency, not just as an engine option that costs rediculous amounts, not just there if people think they want it, it has to be THE defining factor in the NEW Hummer. Diesel comes standard in every model. Just like the prius, every SUV, and no they may become less prominent - but they are NOT going away anytime soon, will envy the Hummer brand in a green light. What the prius did for toyotas image this could do for GM's as a whole - but the word on diesel has to be beaten into consumers heads.

sharpie- Sorry, but just because LLN says their loosing it doesn't mean the Chinese don't have this "bigger is better" mentality. They've been driving a good portion of GM's sales for the past few years now. Plus, the Chinese and the Japanese have already built their versions of the H1 for civilian use.

nonamedenton- I wouldn't say Tata is doing things we don't know about, I think what you mean to say is the spotlight hasn't been shining on them till recently. Info's there, just not on the front page.

"the indians arent stupid enough to buy the fatally tarnished brand that is Hummer, the chinese are the only people who might buy Hummmer"

I don't know if Indians are stupid, but LaCaLover certainly aren't too smart to generalize. Here's a hint, Chinese don't have that "bigger is better" mentality. Plus, they couldn't careless about the Hummer or Humvee. If they were to buy a big SUV, the Mitsubishi Prado and Toyota Land Cruiser are the perennial there.
