General Motors kicked off the ESPY Awards week last night at the 3rd annual GM All-Car Showdown, an invitation-only event celebrating the hottest celebrity-owned modified GM vehicles, both present-day and vintage. Twelve celebrity automotive enthusiasts showcased their GM vehicles, including Snoop Dogg, Travis Barker, Ludacris, Jamie Kennedy, and Reggie Bush. Shaquille O’Neal returned to Los Angeles on the heels of his NBA victory as host of the event. This year’s “King of Bling” title went to Dwyane Wade for his 2006 white HUMMER H2 SUT. Ludacris won “Best Exterior” for his 1954 multicolor green Chevrolet Bel Air while Snoop Dogg won “Best Interior” for his 1966 white Cadillac Deville complete with three chandeliers. Cedric the Entertainer won “Best Old School Car” for his 1952 midnight blue candy Buick B52. A $2,500 donation was made in each participant’s name to the charity of their choice and this year’s “King of Bling,” Dwyane Wade received a $10,000 donation to the Dwyane Wade Foundation. Guests were treated to a special performance by Common. Oddly, GM did not release photos of the individual cars. However, we have a gallery from the event after the jump…
More than 200 children from the Challenger’s Boys & Girls Club of Los Angeles cheered on the participants as custom automobiles made their way down the runway including:
- Ludacris (Actor/ Rapper) – 1954 multicolor green Chevrolet Bel Air
- Matt Leinart (NFL Arizona Cardinals) – 2007 white Chevrolet Tahoe
- Bernard Hopkins (Boxer) – 2006 maroon HUMMER H2
- Maria Menounos (Actress/ TV Host) – 1963 pastel green Chevrolet Impala
- Reggie Bush (NFL New Orleans Saints) – 2006 black HUMMER H2
- Travis Barker (Blink 182) – 2007 black Cadillac Escalade
- Cedric the Entertainer (Actor/ Comedian) – 1952 midnight blue candy Buick B52
- Sam Hornish Jr. (2006 Indianapolis 500 Winner) – 1976 Cadillac Eldorado
- Stacy Keibler (Actress) – 2005 silver Cadillac SRX
- Jamie Kennedy (Actor) – 2006 red with black trim Chevrolet SSR
- Dwyane Wade (NBA Champion Miami Heat) – 2006 white HUMMER H2 SUT
- Snoop Dogg (Actor/ Rapper) – 1966 white Cadillac De Ville with real platinum pin-striping

Utter rubbish, GM has got money to pull stuipd stunts like this instead of concentrating on getting their act together in the automotive industry.
Goes to show where their priorities are.

I’m just personally sick of Celebrities in general. To me, it just depends on what they’re famous for and these days, I can only respect a few who are famous for actual substance versus random genetics etc.

Hey Leftlane…who gives a flying fk?
Can you stick to real automotive news. Thanks.
Ps- I also don’t care about:
-What Paris Hilton Drives
-Who Lindsey Lohan has crashed into this week, unless it was my piece
-The OFFICIAL PHOTOS of the new Sebring
-What Jeremy Clarkson has to say. Most people in UK despise him because of what a loud-mouth American he has become. And also, listen closer, you Americans don’t get the fact that he constantly insults you.

This is exactly GM’s problem, marketing is not gonna save GM. Try building cars people want.

GM — you are retarded. Good cars will sell better that well hyped trash cars.

llnsuxnow, we know that Jeremy is always insulting America and praising damn near anything that’s built in Britain but we still like his sense of humor (or humour for the Brits in the audience). As for this GM showcase? Yet more proof that GM is so out of touch with the automotive market that the best they could come up with is the bling awards.

NUmber 7 has it. This is a problem that is prevelant in US advertising culture. The belief that it doesn’t matter what your actuall product is, it is how it is marketed, has lead to so much crap permeating our society, from cars, to food, to politicains. Try building a car that people want or that does something really well. That will sell cars.
Like seeing Snoops ‘64 Impala will make some 19 yr old kid buy a new one? Doubtfull.

I’m 19 yrs old and seeing snoops 64 impala won’t make me buy a new one, however if the new RWD ZETA impala looked like a 1964 or if a Buick looked as bold and brash as a 1950’s one I would trade in my 300c in a second. Chrome, flash and aggressiveness is what American cars are supposed to be all about, subtlety is for old money bluebloods, WASPS, Euro trash wannabes and timid people who want to go through life without rocking the boat.

Hey 2006300C,
Concering cars for “wannabes and timid people who want to go through life without rocking the boat. ”
Is that why you bough a 300C? ’cause I see plenty of lamo suburbanites and people who would not be considered cool in a million years drivng 300s and 300Cs. Infact, I would think that is the major buyer of the 300 as it is Chrysler’s bread and butter car.

Just because something has mass appeal doesn’t mean it’s not cool. The Mustang sales 160, 000 a year, the Honda civic sales about 200,000 and the 1957 Chevy sold about 400,000 and no one except fanatical import fans would call that car uncool. A car is an expression of your personality in the same vein as your house and the clothes you wear and the music you listen to. Very few people want to look like a gray flannel suit wearing accountant, even if they are one.

Every car company in the world uses celebrities to sell there cars, so what is the difference if they get famous people to bring there customized version of a gm car to a show to get interest in a product. There are people out there who will see D Wade’s H2 and think it looks cool and decide to buy and start customizing it. I guarantee at least one person in the world will. And as for the old cars, if you get a kid hooked on the good ol products then they will come back when in need of something new. I have been a gm kid since first light because of hot rods and muscle cars, I still spend my hard earned money on what I want and that is still gm.

My definition of bling: any material item that you buy & wear in an effort to fool others into believing you’re not good enough a person on your own merits.
I can’t wait for this bling fad to pass so we can all look back and laugh/cringe at what many thought was the answer to happiness.

Wow. Such tough words from people who can type.
You got big words, take them to the street and work it there instead of hiding behind your computer racist small minds.
This was an “Espy” tie in…isn’t the show the mix of entertainment and sporting celebs?
They’re not fixing up 2007 models here, I see it as nothing more than saying…hey, a lot of these guys have a range of fixed up GMs, let’s put them out there….and yes there is a large market that is interested in it so it is a branding exersise.
No one complains about the millions that GM spends on the Vetter Le Mans endeavor and sadly enough that probably does less in the general market place to get recognition than something like this. (not that I agree with it, it is simply fact)
How long ago was it that manufacturers started to heavily offer larger wheel options, chrome options etc. etc.? That all came from the aftermarket influence.
Anyone who puts BMW or any other make above it is full of **** because they have tons of cars on their lots that have chrome wheels.

2.)If it’s not affecting you personally why all the hatred?
3.)All car companies cater to celebs.
4.)Stop acting tough on the net, if half of you “net gangstas” were actually there you’d be asking for autographs like groupies.
