Some of them look great but will they actually do it? I wish automakers would push the envelope more and give us these kinds of designs.

Meh. I don't like outlandish gawdy interiors. Clean and elegent is where it's at for me.

However, it's obvious that the future is going to be fully digital IPs. I can see GM saving a ton of money by developed ONE digital IP, and using it in every single car, truck, van, CUV, and SUV. They can then give each IP a unique design and layout by programming it and hiring a couple graphics artists to come up with the looks.

That means they even program it to be customizable.

Personally, I hate red as an interior light in vehicles. I love blue or very soft white. I should be able to configure my IP to have different colors and even layouts if I want. That would be a cool selling point for the vehicles: customization and personalization.

GM needs to do this NOW, NOW, NOW !!!

Stupid company run by stupid executives.
They cannot see they need an image breaker to save the company.

P.S.-Please don't start beating the Corvette interior again.

I agree with fromes, I'm thinking the second to last picture is a next generation Colorado's center stack. At least I hope, because if they do that truck right they could really strike gold in a segment that GM has overlooked for too long.

I had the same reaction as Commodore when I read some of these comments. And someone mentioned the current Malibu's interior, but it's only months away from being replaced by a vastly improved (and highly praised) 2008 model. The Grand Prix was also mentioned, but it is to be replaced by the awesome G8 in 2008. Poor examples. If you're going to critique GM's direction, make sure you're talking about their new products and not models that are in their last few months of production.

GM is in the process of change, big change that doesn't happen in one or two model years. The good thing is that change is happening. These concepts (rather, hopefully sneak peeks) are just one indication of the talent that GM has working for them now.

Hey Commodore, settle down man! I think we all can see that I was referring to the digital looking dashes shown in the first few pics. The center stacks are all decent, but not groundbreaking. They look good in the CTS, which is encouraging.

I think it's great that GM is throwing it out there that interiors need love too. I was simply commenting that some of those shots are pretty far fetched, and will not see the light of day for years to come.

yeah, nice design, then some other car company will steal the idea and apply it 5 years before GM starts to think "oh, this is a good idea to make this, and we are not too late!!"
btw, union kills

They should put off the futuristic designs and concentrate on getting the basics right. You know, plastic that isn't slippery and hard, buttons and switches that have a precise feel. The little things that after all this time they STILL can't get right!

The stuff built into the speedometer is not a good idea. It requires you to take your eyes off the road to operate it or see what's going on.

That first gauge would look great in an HHR, especially if it were possible to alter the color to match the exterior paint. It's very retro-looking.

Those center stack designs probably aren't that far away. They don't look very advanced. The '08 CTS carries some similar designs. I bet we see the designs in the upcoming Colorado replacement.

The designs look great, Im just afriad we wont see something like this in a GM production car for awhile...

Even though GM's interiors have improved quite a bit over the past couple of years a lot of their interiors are still behind, just sit in a Pontiac Grand Prix, G6 or the current chevy Mailbu and you will see what im Talking about

It's really awful how GM does this all the time - they design something awesome, then say "OK guys, nice exercise but back to reality."

Is it really that xxxxing hard to build a cool dash complex like the ones above?

The only real changes to gauge design reaching production are the Civic's split design and center-mounted gauges in the Mini and some economy cars. These designs are aesthetically pleasing but the real test is if they can pass information clearly, unambiguously, quickly, and intuitively.
The center consoles are much better, avoiding the push-button hell that has taken over most cars. let's hope they make it to production with little modification.

It's cool to see what we'll never see. Someday an automaker will make what they envision and see that the market will eat it up. Looks good, keep up the vision!

GM needs to turn these drawings into production parts right now. Now these designs in my opinion are by no means beautiful but they are much more attractive than any current GM interior. Knowing GM they'll wait at least a decade and put these designs into production and once again they'll be a company that lives in the past.

The one pink gauge with the itsy bitsy navigation map on there... I understand it's just a showcase of design, but who's going to be able to read and distinguish that little map?

And they'll seriously need to do better with the center consoles. The problem with the Big Threes consoles is that they don't have a fluid design, just look at a Camry and you'll notice not alot of edges meet up with other edges. That especially goes with the central console. Do I like it? Yes, but I want to see more.

What if GM came out with a dashboard with no buttons at all, not like a touch screen but like the Ipod- with flush touch sensitive buttons built into the dashboard. That would be a smart step, things such as dials could be replaced with a shuffle function like the Ipod, and it would create a very unique form.

Pure concept - won't happen for years, but keeps up brand interest. That nav dash already makes the Volvo coffee cup look outdated!
