There’s speculation in the Motor City that GM will announce plans to produce the Camaro ahead of the October 31 SEMA show, according to the Detroit News. In early April, organizers of the 2006 Specialty Equipment Market Association show announced the event would have an increased focus on muscle cars, with Ford, General Motors and DaimlerChrysler teaming up to jointly display their latest offerings as they share the title of “Vehicle Manufacturers of the Show.” The Ford Mustang GT500, Chevrolet Camaro, and Dodge Challenger will share the limelight at the event, organizers said. While there’s no concrete evidence that GM is getting ready to make an announcement, it’s unlikely the automaker would go into the show as the only automaker without production plans. On July 1st, Chrysler announced it would produce the Challenger as a 2008 model.
“The Mustang, Camaro and Challenger helped bring many of our industry’s earliest businesses into being,” said SEMA President and CEO Christopher J. Kersting. “The current production and concept versions of those fabled cars are now kindling similar passion in a new generation of auto enthusiasts and are once again providing opportunities for our member companies.”
“The idea of collaboration is particularly appropriate this year, the 40th anniversary of the SEMA Show,” noted Kersting. “Our roots and our heritage have evolved with the musclecars of today, so it is fitting that we’re celebrating our past while working with OEMs that are looking to the future. They share the passion that our member companies have built their businesses on, so it’s a very good fit.”

Why is GM’s announcement of when they might make an announcement regarding an announcement about possibly putting the Camaro into production news any more? Either build it or shut the hell up already, I’m sick of all these daily updates. It applies to others as well, yeah, I’m looking at you Chrysler. Ford just built the damn Mustang and went about their business, these other two idiots (GM and Chrysler) just sit around announcing that they might make announcements about announcing the announcements… ok, time for my meds now.

I’ve had a total of 5 F body cars. A 1982 Trans Am, 1994 Firebird, 1987 IROC Z, 1993 Z28, and I still have a 2002 Trans Am. I’ve always been a fan of these cars but I hope GM actually builds some quality and refinement into the new Camaro as the build quality of the previous models is absolute ****.

No… you will be the one embarrassed by yet another Camaro that can’t even get out of it’s own way ! Just like the last 2 generations of them, this Camaro LOOKS good… but, LOOKS alone can’t beat solid muscle.

That 600 hp mustang is Shelby talking crap again not ford, It will never happen. In the remote chance it does it will probably be a limited run much like the Ford GT. That car never reached their projected production totals of 300, ended at 150. I personally liked the car and they would probably have sold a ton of them at 70-80 grand. At a price tag over 170+ G’s initially and 150 later (because of “hand assembly”) mostly dealerships and die hard (rich) collectors bought them. How many mustangs do you think they will sell at a price tag of over or close to 100 grand, not many. Almost certain that you #8 PJ wont be buying it, probably just like Shelby your both full of hot air if you say you are. Who would pay the 100 g’s if losers out there can make their base model look almost the same and only pay 20 thousand dollars for their car and a little extra for decals, stickers, body panels. Sound familiar cobra mustang owners? If he does build it I’m sure it will be with the same or similar sized engine that’s in it now. They will increase the boost on the supercharger and add an intercooler if not already used and maybe a few more mods. They will probably call it the GT600 and just like the GT500 (485hp)it won’t make the HP it’s name implies. If thats the case the 6.0 engine in the camaro not to mention the possible 7.0lt engine available (underrated at 505hp), can easily have the similar supercharger intercooler added at the end of assembly from a “middle man” like SLP or aftermarket at a fraction of the cost. Im sure the HP rating will be much higher. Typical ford campaign/mentality just like they produced 2 1000+hp mustangs in the 60’s (of witch only one remains, meant only as a show car) so they can say they lead the HP battle. I don’t care about limited run cars that most will never leave their garages but once or twice a year or sea the light of day ever. On average the daily driver comparable models chevy has produced have almost always won out in that race.

Hey Darkstar WHAt the F*ck are you talking about. What car produced in the same years at that similar or same PRICE could easily surpass the f-body without mods? Yes there are faster cars for higher pricess or other years of productions. Don’t compare a 60’s 427 to a 90’s LS1. If you do then you don’t know what the crap you are talking about. Im almost certain you probably don’t drive any of them anyhow so shut your pie whole unless you can provide an educated argument, with substancial PROOF.

#13, “Ford GT. That car never reached their projected production totals of 300, ended at 150″ What are you talking about? Production just ended, with total numbers in the thousands. We sold number 1502 for 235k. And “just like the GT500 (485hp)it won’t make the HP it’s name implies” the Shelby GT 500 DOES PRODUCE 500 horsepower (torque is 480.)

I must have seen a bad report on the production numbers, I know i had seen on the news and paper they were stoping production early. Im possitive on what I had seen, but yes you right the did make 1890 in 2005 and 500 or so this year. They are selling for just over 150 not the 230ks your talking about. As for the Ford Cobra GT500 initial reports had it at 450 then at 475 then 485 if the new numbers is 500 so be it but thats why the confusion. Look on the web theres many web sites with conflicting info if thats the case.I.E. http://www.thecarconnection.com/Vehicle_Reviews/Sports_Convertibles/Preview_2007_Ford_Shelby_GT500.S184.A9841.html
you can look the many others up and # 10 todd the camaro dimensions are as follows.
camaro
Height:53.0 inLength:186.2 inWidth:70.6 inWheelbase:110.5 in
mustang
Length: 188 in. Width: 73.9 in.
Height: 54.4 in. Wheel Base: 107.1 in.
challenger
Height:57.0 inLength:197.8 inWidth:78.6 inWheelbase:116.0 in
So as it turns out Todd the camaro is smaller or the same size and it will have a more powerfull engine.

Okay, #12 you need to do some research. The Camaro OWNED the power and handling departments for the last 10 years of its running. And during the 3rd gen years, it held its ground equally to the mustang. Get off your fanboy high horse.

Foster stick to beers. They anounced they were killing the f-body around 2000-2001, GM whent thru the same thing Ford did in the 80’s when it came close to killing the mustang for the PROBE, Remember that crap? Also The Cobra had similar power output. The SS 330+ even the Z28 dynoed close to or above 330, but GM for insurance purposes posted the SS at 330 and the Z28 at 305 for those years. Yet the same year Cobras were about 20gs more.
*****************
this article taken from wikipedia 1999 cobra “While the Cobra claimed 320 hp (239 kW), some magazines and owners contradicted it. 5.0 Mustangs and Super Fords claimed that it actually exceeded the torque rating, but didn’t quite match the power rating. There were recalls for the 1999 model year Cobras, which were given intake and exhaust improvements, putting power at 320 hp to match the original claim. As a result, the Cobra was not produced in 2000 (except the limited Cobra R) and the company developed new parts to replace the missing power. These changes were incorporated into the 2001 model year Cobra”
It’s too bad they chose to up th HP and nickname the car Terminator when they already knew for a long time there was not going to be any US competition. I’m sure Gm would have matched if not surpass that output. BTW the number# of the post the person has is at the bottom not the top. Yes Mustang has almost if not always outsold the Camaro even if you include the firebird, and yes everything from grandmothers and grandfathers to zit faced highschool girls bought them, of cource theres nothing wrong with that,or is there? they sure are preaty cars.
