August 23 will mark the end of the line for General Motors’ mid-size pickup truck plant in Shreveport, Louisiana. GM will shutter the plant next August as outlined in its most recent four-year labor deal with the United Auto Workers Union.
The Shreveport planned previously produced Hummer H3 models and continues to build GM’s mid-size Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickup trucks. However, the plant will officially close its doors on August 23, depending on any orders by dealers or customers.
The Shreveport plant was the only factory marked for closure in GM’s recent labor deal with the UAW.
But while the Shreveport plant won’t continue on, the Chevrolet Colorado will. GM recently confirmed that its will build the next-generation of the compact truck at its Wentzville, Missouri truck plant. GM has yet to announce when that truck will enter production, but it could be as soon as next summer. Further details on the project could be announced at next month’s Los Angeles Auto Show.
