General Motors has officially announced that it will be laying off 340 hourly workers at its Moraine, Ohio. GM announced that there would be layoffs at the Moraine plant back in October, but failed to mention how many cuts there would be.
The Moraine plant produces the Chevy TrailBlazer, the GMC Envoy, Isuzu Ascender and the Saab 9-7X. The layoffs — which will begin in January and continue through March — are due to a sagging demand for the SUVs.

According to Automotive News, sales of the TrailBlazer are down 24.6% , Envoy sales have slipped 35.5%, Ascender sales are off 39.2% and 9-7X sales are down 9.5% compared to last year.

Although the plant will continue with two shits, the layoffs will see the plant’s production decrease from 58 vehicles an hour to 50.
