Stig, I do not get your comment. The article states they are going to cut 34% this year. To me that is cutting the ranks. Clue me in here please.

Also GM has been cutting salaried/execs for 6 years now, probably about 5-10% every year.

From March 2006: “The company has said it plans to reduce its salaried work force by 7 percent this year.”

In summary from 2004-2008:

“GM’s salaried headcount in the United States has already dropped by one-fourth over the past four years, from 39,000 in 2004 to 29,000 at the end of 2008.”

I can see why they are cutting the executive ranks for these reasons:

1: they have cut several brands
2: they have laid off some people

Because GM is selling off Hummer, Saab, Saturn, Opal/Vauxhall and killing or selling Pontiac, i wonder if by just doing that if that accounts for most of the 34% cut in executive ranks? It would be interesting to see,,,,
