Mr. Investment Banker (TheRealist..Ha, Ha, Ha) . .. . . .You'll get yours soon when this whole country goes bankrupt like GM. You're so smart that your whole financial industry is insolvent and only still here because it's being proped up by debt from my children and grandchildren (Borrowed from China and Japan. )

We the USA are broke and in debt to the tune of 12+ trillion dollars. Who's going to finance your next bail out? China !!! Just like the current bailout. AMERICA IS BROKE, BUSTED, Out Of Money. The only money we have to spend is coming from overseas countries buying our worthless treasuries and bonds.
The president and treasury secretary have to go begging for money from China...that's why there's a green light to move everything to China. ( This isn't America....that was sold off to the communist years ago by the so called capitalist)

With no one making a decent living, we will not be buying cars, houses or anything of value. Food and Rent is all the average people will be able to afford. American's will not matter to big business very soon.

The real market for cars will be in China where the money is. ( China isn't broke $$$, China is adding jobs everyday, China is growing everyday, Chinese are making more money everyday, They will be buying more cars than America is a year or less, China will take over the USA within a decade or two......Face it)

Printing money and trading pieces of paper back and forth can't go on for much longer.

I buy ONLY American made GM cars....when there are no more, I will stop buying them. I'll buy used American made for the rest of my life if I have to...but I'll NEVER BUY ANOTHER IMPORTED CAR.

America is dying and the band played on........ You sheep have gotten what you want. More and more cheap disposable imports. The more you buy the more they will make. It's the consumer who decides and they have choosen their imports and their OWN DENSINY. You want to change things ....you have to STOP BUYING FOREIGN and the corporations will change. I don't think America doesn't have the will to do it.

SEE YOU IN 3RD WORLD AMERICA...IT'LL BE HERE BEFORE YOU KNOW IT.

Out of work, starving food food.....You can Eat Your Import (if your not already living in it)

3Whl: Your wrong Americans are keeping their cars longer then ever I think we are up to 11 years avg, from 4 years in the 60s. The American public is the least greedy group on the planet. We give away twice the % of income to charity of any Euro nation.
Down with Wallmart.
I go out of my way to by US/Can made products. Here is a website that helps.

Shallowsw, I don't believe in communism, that wasn't what I said at all. If we chose to build things here, more people would be employed here. If the US is so rich, why do we have to borrow money from china and other countries every time were in a jam? It's not that I don't believe in outsourcing, just not at such a high percentage. Don't put words in my mouth.

The American paradigm of corporate greed has taken this country down the toilet. Not that we invented greed - but we have certainly pushed it to new heights. How rich are the owners of Walmart? Yet they and numerous other giant corporations feel the need to make more $$$ by adding more stores (wiping out small businesses as they go). Yet with all the wealth produced in the last 40 years, very little has gone to those that actually do the work. The corporations with their CEOs and boards of directors and wealthy investors take the lions share of all wealth for themselves. In the auto industry, add the greed of union workers - who for years continually demanded wage and benefit increases, for doing the same work (a short step up from menial labor). After both sides have screwed the business, a consumer has to pay what used to buy a house, for a product that is not as reliable or efficient as those made elsewhere. It is amazing that the industry lasted this long!
Our greed already killed most other American manufacturing jobs years ago. For years, US companies exploited every country they could for oil, labor and materials so they deliver higher profits to that tiny percentage that seem to get it all.
Now we have less greedy competitors with higher quality standards. American companies will have to be less greedy and produce better products to stay alive. Here's hoping they do....

@monte "China doesn’t outsource much, and their economy has been rapidly growing in recent years..." Sure! I'll take trade surplus over Communism anyday! I don't know dude... I think you've oversimplified the dynamics of macro-economy to a level only mindless politicians "claims" to understand. (You see, politicians are experts in playing the "blame game", but newbs in "doing-something-constructive-for-the-American-people game".)

I am almost certain that if we deleted the 1st amendment from our Constitution, (which will effectively bring the demise of labor unions, such as UAW) we will once again become the "Cheapest Labor Force in the World" (Which we did kinda have, prior to Civil War. Slavery, ring a bell?) and bring all'em manufacturing jobs back.

Man... why are we so stressed about money and economy when we are the richest nation in the world? (13.4 trillion GDP 2008) May I suggest a little Henry David Thoreau to distract us away from our paranoia for a bit?

I highly doubt that GM will last until 2011, much less be selling Chinese made cars. Good bye and good riddance, to a company whose resistance to change and lack of reality based foresight has been anything but good for America.

Reading the comments here is hilarious it's funny how the majority of people live in a little bubble and don't realise who runs their country.

Chinese made products include:

All computers(your PC or laptop is Chinese made)
All cellphones(your pretty iPhone is made in China)
Most Clothes(your designer wear suits are most likely Chinese made though could also be Bangladeshi etc)

Damn one of the biggest imports from China to America is Chinese made American flags!

Your pro-American bumper sticks are made in China. Your TV's on which you watch the presidents speech are made in China. There are literally a handful of things not made in China.

With everything else in America being made in China what do you think is going to happen inevitably with cars?

Quality won't be a problem because you can't really make American cars worse quality than they already are if you tried.

With everything else in America being made in China it's inevitable the entire American car industry will be run by the Chinese and you can mark my words on that. It's not exactly a big loss considering if you had a grain of intelligence you'd know that the damn car parts for American cars are outsourced from Mexico so it's not really a big deal in the bigger picture considering American cars are hardly American made as it is.

GM is the first one soon the others will follow just like what happened with the American electronics companies when one outsourced and then all of them followed.

Damn as an investment banker I'd hate to think what you guys think about China owning the bonds in the US treasury(assuming you know what that means of course).

This makes me sick, I'll never buy one.

If companies would source more parts and assembly from this country, we wouldn't be in this situation. When the domestic three were essentially what everyone bought, things were great. GM was the first company to profit 1 billion in a year, then the first to two billion, and so on. Which is why they have such financial problems now. They started all these "to good to be true" benifit plans, such as full pension, full heath coverage with no copay along with top wages to employees. When imports slowly worked their way into market share from the eighties on up, the domestic three were stuck paying for stuff they can't afford from previous decades. If japanese companies were around and popular in the US from the 40s/50s era and on, they would be in the exact same situation.

People claim outsourcing doesn't hurt, they are wrong. It may be cheaper to outsource, but people who don't have jobs still can't afford the product. The GDP has a direct relationship with how many people will have jobs/(money) in this country. China doesn't outsource much, and their economy has been rapidly growing in recent years, the US on the other hand does, and its economy has been rapidly weakening.

And yes,I realize we don't always have a choice when making a purcase. It's more of a company management problem than a consumer problem.

We only have ourselves to blame on this one folks.

We used to hang on to our cars until they wore out or we handed them off to our kids. We used to dream of the house with the white picket fence in the suburbs with a cat and a dog, two kids and a real yard. We shopped at the corner grocery and hardware stores on main street. Dad and or mom worked, and dinner was 6:00.

What have we got now?

We trade in cars before we are done paying for them. We buy houses that are to big and expensive with lawns so small our kids can have spitball fights with the neighbor's kids. If they had any. Our dogs come from puppy mills because everybody wants a Papillon. We shop at the home depot and wally world while our main streets have become war zones. Mom is alone with the kids, now recently laid off as her IT job was outsourced to India. She is suing dad for child support, which is not coming this month because his job at the plant was moved to China. The kids don't care, because Johnny is on his playstation and Jenny is going deaf with her ipod cranked up too loud. Dinner is at Mickey-D's

You can't blame China or any other country for what we are doing to ourselves.

The kids don’t care, because Johnny is on his playstation and Jenny is going deaf with her ipod cranked up too loud. Dinner is at Mickey-D’s

You can’t blame China or any other country for what we are doing to ourselves.

I'm sorry swamprat, I don't quite see the difference between and iPod and a car for the purposes of your argument.

If it's made in China, it's made in China. What makes an iPod (For example) morally acceptable to buy and not a car?

And I think calling someone a traitor is a little pointless when even American cars have Mexican parts in them...

There are some people who have no problem consistently trading our jobs for lower prices. I call them traitors. This is not a conservative or a liberal issue. Its Americans versus traitors. It's okay to purchase an Ipod, or a PC (for crying out loud!). If you wantonly purchase from a low wage country without regard to how those workers are treated. You are a dam#ed traitor.

Everything's made in China.

If you have an American Flag bumper sticker on your car, just remember it was probably made in China.

The Computer you're complaining on, or going on irrelevant, misguided rants (mayer_ray_nagin) with no political acumen or understanding, was at least partially made in China.

While I do realize that "American" cars nowadays either get parts from overseas, or are just straight up built overseas (I'm including Mexico/Canada when I say overseas) I don't think Americans will accept a Chinese built car. At least not for a while.

Where do you think the 3.5 V6 in the current generation Equinox was produced? CHINA! I hope GM rethinks this plan. Build the new Buick small sedan in the U.S. & employ AMERCAN WORKERS!

On another note, I went to the Chinese Buick website. I didn't know they produced a Hybrid LaCrosse for that market.

GM is going to have to add some models to flesh out it's American Buick Dealerships. 2 lackluster sedans & a large corssover isn't enough. I appreicate the looks of the next Epsion II based Lacrosse & I hope it does well for them. The Insignia seems to be it would be a nice midline model (esentally replacing the Aura & G6 after they stop productiion. I am also hoping that Buick benefits from the Hybrid Tech that Saturn uses or developed. Why can't these systems be adapted to cars than small cross overs (2 mode Vue) .

This Delta based car ( next gen Opel Astra) in my opinion should be available as a sedan or wagon for Buick U.S.A.. A hatch just doesn't seem to "fit" with the brand. & it should be a couple notches up in horsepower, quality & styling, quietness

& is there REALLY a market in the US. for microcars? Not in my area of the country (mid south) where 2500 HD pickups prevail along with full aized SUV's. Right now I drive a 2007 Honda Civic/ I don't drive much iit on ly has 11,00 miles on it. I am going back American next time the Cruze & the next generation Focus as well as the Fiesta & I am going to waite at least a year after have been on the market.

back to the cars, i nearly spit out my drink when i read "a possibility of a compact sedan for buick". oh that is funny stuff!! they cant even sell their full sized cars, so lets give them an econobox they can charge 35k for and sell 20k a year.....if that!!! gm will wake up too late and realize pontiac would have been the logical choice to reinvent. they were the only division left that can sell in volume when properly advertised, buick just cant. tiger did nothing for their numbers and the numbers dont lie. buicks car sales have been awful. even with refreshed models it is too late for them here in the states. allow them to live because they are big in china, but their cars will not succeed here. time for plan H gm, or whatever letter it is now. sometimes its not so fun to watch a train wreck, and this is certainly a trainwreck unfolding before our eyes....

Obama is depending on China to fund his bullcrap s.o.c.i.a.l.i.s.t programs thru their loans, and the only way he going to get it from them is by strong-arming his little biatch GM into giving the Chinese an easy bite of the north american market.

You are looking at this wrong the wrong perspective guys. Most GM shoppers couldn't care less the point of assembly on a particular car, because if they ever looked into it they would have realized many years ago "Buying GM =/= Buying American". Take the Aveo/G3 as the most extreme example... built in Korea by GM-Daewoo, people still buy it under the "American Revolution" slogan. So I wouldn't really care if entry level Chevys (like spark) were made in China, I can't imagine it being any worse than Daewoo.

Relax, take a deep breath, GM is not going to sell cars from China unless they meet GM's strict quality standards. You know, the quality standards that are equal to or better then the Japanese. Automobiles are sourced from all over the world, this is no different. Plus, I bet your average car buyer doesnt even know where their cars come from. Im hoping GM pulls thru this, in fact my next car will be either a GM or Chrysler product.

No matter you like it or not, you are using a lot of stuffs that's Made in China. Your iphone (parts), your eee PC (parts), your forks and spoons...even the hospital where your child was given birth has many things are Made in China.
Great first we hear about lead in our children’s toys, then milk is contaminated. Now I just hear yesterday that drywall (or plasterboard as some know it) that was produced in China and was used in Florida & Louisiana homes has sulphur which corrodes pipes, electrical (anything metal) in your home and the entire home ahs to but built from scratch. Now GM wants China to build their cars… Siht we’re in trouble.
