LMAO!!!!! I'm literally laughing so hard I can't stop! After reading this article and seeing "South Korea" mentioned as the Volt's future engine origin... The first thing I did was scroll through all the posts too look for NMOFGM's post... and many here have noticed as I have that he hasn't posted!

NMOFGM you've become a part of LLN's legend officially! You will be remembered so long as LLN exists! You should be proud!

hahahahhahahahahahahahahahah... by the way... where is he? I'm a little worried on another side... he really was supporting GM's Volt project and boasting about being an all-american car... you okay buddy? you out there? say something... speak to us... oh wait... actually... no... say nothing... don't even bother.

This is absolutely going to be interesting with how GM is actually going to play this out to the end, I wonder if it'll just stick to Asia in the end as it's main supplier? Well, I'm just going to sit back and watch GM's brilliant Volt plan do it's magic... by magic, since it's obvious it's all an illusion, it'll just become... well a trick that'll be one day forgotten, GM... please concentrate on your solid-projects with prospective futures!

The truth is at the moment the American automobile manufacturing industry/process is STILL sub par to the rest of the world. Quality's improved, but barely and anyone saying otherwise is in denial. I would like to buy domestic, but I'm still not convinced and Detroit still has a long way to go IMO. BTW I'm American.

Sfiveten, you also can't read.

"If you’re correct then I assume they’ve been building the Volt in Asia for some time now….. right????

No! They haven’t…. they are going to set up an “existing” factory in Asia (where labor is cheap) to build this ish."

They're not building the Volt there, they're building the Cruze there. Yes, they are as we speak. Surprise, the Cruze uses that 1.4L engine that's going to be used in the Volt here. Don't be a tool and spout BS about things that you don't understand.

It only takes a minute to read an article, and that can save you a lot of face when you otherwise choose to read a fucking headline and then some selected comments.

I wonder why some of you are here, if you aren't even reading the blogs. Just to bitch and whine, I guess.

It's embarrassing that so many of you can type but so few can read. They said Korea, not China.

Wasn't this the plan from the beginning? The Flint plant was supposed to provide the engines when the demand increased. They had a factory already tooled to build the engines for cars being sold in Asia. With the current economy, and seeing recent auto sales trends, I don't think GM is going to need two plants worth of one small engine's production going on at once. Half of their problems right now are overproduction, just like everyone else. If the US economy needs to waste money to ensure US jobs, but is asking GM to ensure they're financially viable, they should build the Flint plant with some of this allotted stimulus spending. Otherwise, you're asking GM to make poor decisions, whilst berating them for making poor choices in the past.

So which is it? Stop making stupid moves, or make stupid moves to allow the UAW to drain the company dry in yet another plant. You can't be surprised that these companies are trying to get away from the Unions. If the UAW folded tonight, I can guarantee you would see US production come back by force in the coming years.

If Ghosn had made this call, it would have been genius.

Can anyone tell me where the Japanese golden child, the Prius, is built? It sure as hell isn't the US, because they recently scrapped the plans for that factory.

And NMOFGM is a troll. Ignore him.

sfiveten is a moron! Imeant that the plant they would like to build the engines in is probably ALREADY built and running, but not building the Volt yet! Keep drinking your koolaid?.......How childish is it to say something like that? I said in my earlier post that IT WAS MY OPINION! I wasn't going off sayin it was real! I feel bad for GM because people just don't like them. I have never had problems with any GM vehicle I have driven(except my Blazer). CADDY-V, you are so true! The CTSV is a BMW M5 eater. So sfiveten and anti-believer i would like you to read this post too! NMOFGM again needs to not post a blog. I am a fan of all car companies. I love GM, Ford, BMW, Volvo, Volkswagen, Nissan, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and Tesla. I like Aston Martin, Bentley, Porsche, Lamborghini, Mazda, Hyundai, Kia, Mitsubishi, Chrysler etc. I'm fond of Toyota and don't like Honda.

GOOD RIDIANCE!

I'm not sure who's dimmer, Need More Oil For GM or those who argue with him. I honestly don't even think NMOFGM is an actual fan of GM, look no further than his screen name to see his real intent. I also get a kick out of those who think buying an Import is more American than buying from the D3. Yes the big 3 have some assembly plants outside of the U.S., and yes the Japanese have some assembly plants inside the U.S., but make no mistake that it's still far better for the economy to buy from the D3. The D3's production inside the U.S. dwarfs that of the Imports and with very few exceptions are built with a much higher level of domestic content. I look at this decision as a no-brainer, GM would be crucified if the Volt was not brought to market when promised.

Lionwithoutpride, my condolences on your stock, I jumped ship in time on this one, not on others.
As far as strategic point, in the case of national emergency our government can nationalize and utilize as it sees fit any business, factory or plant. What is the difference if it is Toyhonda or GM plant? It is an assembly plant, Japs plants are newer and much, much more efficient.

It's getting to the point where we need a Frisco D'Anconia to lead us all in "shrugging." You all know I have been for the bailout of Detroit for strategic (read: military) needs; however, this decision by GM makes it clear that they are past the point of saving. And I am a GM stockholder.

What is the government going to do if people who pay taxes wise up to the scheme? What is going to happen if everyone realizes that you simply have to stop working. You don't work and they don't have taxes to redistribute. They cannot force you to work. Not without a "Directive No. 10-289." If you have no clue what I am talking about then you should read more, or at least Google or Wikipedia it. There is no sense in producing for the benefit of those who will not produce. If you think Ayn Rand was nuts then I suggest you re-read the Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged. Atlas Shrugged almost has a blue-print for exactly what is going on.

GM . . . get rid of Orren Boyle, or we will cheer the Ragnar Danneskjolds of the World. I really hope it hasn't become dangerous to write these things. In other words, I hope I am wrong.

please. cars made in america, be it import or not, is generating business in america and other parts of the world. all the japanese, german and korean plants are also generating money for the american market. and most of the cars that are US bound are designed in the automakers design studios here in america and have seperate platforms, i.e. the altima that is built in america does not share any platforms with other altima/bluebird body styles, the accord has two platforms for acura, TL and the TSX (euro accord). i know that the american altima and accord are built in america and so are: Titan, Tundra, Sequoia, Venza, Camry, Corolla, Matrix (which GM shares a plant with Toyota in Fremont, CA and some other part of california), many Hyundai's are made assembled in America. so technically you can't say that if you don't buy american you aren't supporting america because every car maker is making their cars that are specifically for the US on American soil. That is all that i have to say. but overall i hope this car works out for GM.

i am hoping that this car is a hit for GM, not a big fan of GM, but at least this is a step in the right direction. now all they need to do is lower the price and it will sweet success for GM.

What do you think they do in TN everytime they revamp your beloved Vette...... ? Do you think that's any different that what is going on witth the Volt....?

They've had plenty of time to decide where to make these engines... The problem is they went the UN AMERICAN way and pushed it to Asia.

If they truely gave two shits about Bob Doe in Detroit who's looking for work they would have had plans in place a year ago (after all they've been working on this car's R&D for 5 years) to convert an existing plant or part of one to build these engines.

Face it. Your GM failed you.... They've been doing so for a while.

Enjoy your day

Retool factories? O YA what was GM thinking ?All they have to do is give all the worker's a different screw driver and they will beable to built different motors in no time. They could probably be able to drive down to Sears and get what they need.

iluvamcars....... Keep drinking that Cool-Aid.....

If you're correct then I assume they've been building the Volt in Asia for some time now..... right????

No! They haven't.... they are going to set up an "existing" factory in Asia (where labor is cheap) to build this ish.

Please explain how patriotic your beloved GM is by converting a factory in Asia to build Volt engines while we've got idle plants here in the states that could easily be retooled to build this. And don't give me the "cheap labor" crap.... That contradicts your whole argument as to why we should by GM crap.

I'm sorry but GM is done. The public perception they are gaining in these "rough" times is killing them. Anyone looking for a BIG THREE car has only one option if they are smart.

Enjoy your day.

If you buy foreign, i don't hate you! I just feel that you are not supporting the country. Yes, GM builds cars in Canada, but they also build 'em here in the US. So no one should be saying that Toyota is a saint because they build cars in the US and GM is the devil because they build cars in Canada! A lot of Toyota's lineup is built in other country's, and GM builds cars in Texas, Ohio, California{with Toyota}, Kansas, etc. Go ahead and buy what you want but rub your eyes so you can see clearly enough that the world is about to collapse and we all need to join together and support our own countries and create peace. I will always buy American cars and will always support American companies.People who buy foreign aren't satanic, but just don't care that much. Thats my opinion on this and on everyone else's blog! NMOFGM is somewhat a moron, because he also does not understand and shouldn't say a word. He causes everyone to get all fired up and say these harsh things about the big 3 and foreign makes. anti-believer looks for every little bad thing in GM and blows it out of proportion just to make people mad at GM. I will try to stay positive in my blogs and not bash the foreign cars so much. My support for the American cars however will not decrease in any way. The Volt's engine being built in a foreign country for now is not a crime! It's just a way for GM to save some money!

BUY WHATEVER YOU WANT, NOT WHAT EVERYONE SAYS YOU SHOULD
NOW THATS AMERICAN, NOTHING ELSE

OK OK! Everyone needs to calm down! GM is importing the engine from a factory that is already up and running! GM des not have the money right now to build a new factory. They will eventually get the factory up and running, but for now GM needs to spend money wisely! Anti-believer, my saying AMERICAN, NOTHING ELSE, means that you should buy American cars and products and nothing else! Now yes this engine is foreign, for now! The rest of the car is still American! And no one say that they have the government's money to build the factory!

I will say this for the people who buy American. AMERICAN, NOTHING ELSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@..beemerdude
The primary shareholders are still same American old guys... And Saudi Prince is more like the Prince of Dubai, Chase is BIG out there, because of the oil business.

In Dubai banks do not have to turn over no records to no one, unlike the U.S. that the Federal Reserve can look in to any account they want, when they want.

So if you ever need to hide some cash you can go to Dubai, set a account in your name and no one, an I mean no one can make any bank in Dubai turn over any info. As long as a bank has a building standing and your account was open in Dubai, your money is safe. Unlike the Movie BLOOW, with Johnny Depp. But than again it was his fault to set up a account in Manuel Noriega's bank..

drg-Alot of fair points I just that would have to depend on the person who is asking themself the question. As for me I support the home team.I own a cts-v and love it.As for the NUMMI plant of the 880fwy in Fremont CA. GM should have never let toy-yo DAA build there. That was there plant and should have stayed that way.

As for GM building the motors in korea in a plant that they already built?
I guess you would have to ask yourself how long does it take to build a plant, and do they want to delay the car for how ever long it takes to build that plant in Flint?
Even if they build the motors in korea for 1 year and then move the work to Flint so what. They did what they had to do in a time of hurt to bring a great car to the market on time. If they would build it in Flint and have to delay it they would still get sh*t for it.Just get the car here so people can buy it.

@ drg...
Or you can buy a FORD, that is built in Kentucky, U.S.A. with most parts made by U.S. suppliers, and your dollars go to Detroit, no wait, Chase Manhattan Bank, a U.S. bank, and FORD is the only U.S. auto maker that did not take a bail-out.... I'm just saying....

FX Naughty - Here's my delema - Buy a new Chevrolet Silverado built at the Oshawa Ontario Canada assembly plant, or a new Toyota Tacoma built at the NUMMI plant in Fremont California. Are they both domestic? Both Imports? Both neither. Should I support the US car company and ensure that Canadian auto workers have jobs, or support the Japanese company and ensure that US auto workers have jobs? If I buy US then the profit goes to Detroit, but the work goes to Canada. If I buy Japanese, the profit goes to Japan, but the work stays here.

It is your duty as Americans to buy GM cars build from Korean engines, Chinese brakes, with Korean batteries so the money can go to UAW and GM management and everything GM in between. It is immoral and un-Christian to buy Toyonda build in US of nuild in US components, sourced from US suppliers, by non-US non-UAW workers, because profits would go to every shareholder who owns stock in those companies.

Yes they deserve way more funding from the US govenment so that south koreans can feed their families. I am sure glad my family has to suffer while GM gets money to stay afloat and ship more jobs overseas for a car that no one will be able to afford anyway.

So if this car does make it on the shelf before gm closes it doors.
They are saying to get the first ones so you get the chinesse built engine.
It will last much longer than the american built one.
Its a good start for a company going down the ******.
