You want to convince people to take a risk on the 2nd most expensive purchase (#1 for many) most of us make? Offer a non-transferrable 10 year/100k warranty. GM, you are Hyundai circa 1992. Wake up.

people will not get car after car and put a bunch of miles on it.
There are some rules to this promotin.

Here are a few that GM has issued:

- Offer covers 2009 and 2010 Model Year Chevrolets, Buicks, GMCs and Cadillacs (except medium duty trucks)

- Customers (one per household) can return their vehicle between 31 and 60 days with less than 4,000 miles

- Customers will be informed in writing before they buy the vehicle of the terms of the Satisfaction Guarantee

- Customers must take delivery by Nov. 30

- The Satisfaction Guarantee covers the vehicle purchase price and sales tax, but not other add-ons like accessories, negative equity on a trade-in or other fees; other restrictions apply

- Leased vehicles are not included

Well, here’s what give me some hope on this, the guy in charge of marketing is now Bob Lutz and let’s be frank, he’s the one who’s championed what good cars GM has for it now, I’ll give him a chance to show me what they have to offer. He deserves that much respect.

This is a BAD idea.

People will take advantage of this. They’ll buy a car, take it back, then buy another car, take it back, then buy another car, etc.

The cars will rack up mileage for no reason, and all those people will basically drive car after car for free.

Do you get you trade-in back too? I’m giuessing they’ll just hand you a check for what they paid you for it – but the price they gave you is generally BS anyway since they show you more for your trade in that they are really giving you. So do they give you the price they showed you or the real price? If that’s the case, I have a buddy at a Chevy dealer write me up a deal giving me $21k for the GTI and pay sticker for a Malibu only to give it back at 59.5 days for a full refund….

Brilliant idea. Let’s face it we got into a pickle ’cause cars/trucks were leased to everyone who wanted one and all lease checks were lost by post office. We are in recession. Now, the same public who forgot to pay off leased vehicles got brand new vehicle for 2 month to drive. When they will not like Chevy, they’ll drive Buick, GMC. Realistically, I can see a lot of new Cadillacs driving around Newark, NJ. Now, ladies, the painful reminder: we the taxpayers will own those almost new Cadillacs with love stains on back (maybe front) seats, just like we own GM (let me restate it: we subsidize expenses). I’ll tell you: they are not Lee Iaccoca!

I’m used to hearing the “money-back guarantee” for useless products sold on the TV, but a car company pulling the same ploy? I’d much prefer an advertisement featuring Camaro’s or Corvettes doing long smoky drifts on (closed) public streets with catchy music in the background and a fade out with a big Chevy bowtie. Or just return to the old “Like-A-Rock” Chevy truck ads. Remember those? Soooo badass…you know those commercials made every working man in America want to run out and buy a truck. Ah those were the days…
